Yes, i will be your neighbor.

chairsforcheap - 2011-10-04

he was one bomb-ass nigga.

Change - 2011-10-04

His 1967 set was very punk rock.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-10-04

It must be said; his keyboard player had some sweet chops.

Cena_mark - 2011-10-04

I believe that's Fred Rogers you're talking about. He composed most of the music on his show.

OgreMkIV - 2011-10-04

No, it was Johnny Costa who played and led the house band. Fred Rogers composed many of the songs, but he let Costa just run with it. The music for every single episode was recorded live - no two the same. Costa gave up a promising career as a show musician to be closer to his family, but he never lost any of his talent. He refused to dumb down music for kids, which is why this show has such awesome jazz riffs (and visits from big names in jazz).

mouser - 2011-10-04

Conveniently displaying a pedobear.

citrusmirakel - 2011-10-14

Go to hell.

cognitivedissonance - 2011-10-04

A secular saint, untainted.

MrBuddy - 2011-10-04

Actually... he was... um... an ordained Presbyterian minister, but other than that I agree with you!

cognitivedissonance - 2011-10-05

No, I meant that he has yet to be exposed as a fraud. Charles Schulz was close to one until the most recent biography explained what a passive-aggressive little bitch he was.

deadpan - 2011-10-05

I'm surprised you thought that about Schultz: every panel of Peanuts was absolutely dripping with bitter cynicism. Once you got past the delightfully simple artwork that comic was a fifty-year-long poison pen letter to the entire universe.

Anaxagoras - 2011-10-05

Yeah, but the animated features (which were most people's main exposure to the Peanuts) whitewashed the whole affair & made the Peanuts gang oddly cheerful.

fatatty - 2011-10-05

I have to say I'm somewhat surprised and very happy he was never revealed to be some sort of pedophile.

yogarfield - 2011-10-06

i would rather read hagar the horrible than peanuts. fuck that asinine bullshit in a rather hard, horrible manner.

Robin Kestrel - 2011-10-04

A genuinely good man who understood how to communicate with children.

dead_cat - 2011-10-04

You may not really have been a former human killing machine for the Navy, Mr. Rogers, but you were my neighbor.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-10-04

One of the greatest men ever. He will always hold a special place in my heart.

yogarfield - 2011-10-05

i liked it even though it felt like a history of my own futuredeath.

Mr. Bad Example - 2011-10-05

There's a story that once Mr. Rogers' car was stolen. It was returned two days later, unharmed, with a note on the dash reading "If we'd known it was yours, we never would have taken it".

It's probably not true, but by God, it *should* be.

pineapplejuicer - 2011-10-05

it is true. my other favorite mr. rogers story is that a group of presbyterian ministers were holding an anti-gay marriage event and asked they asked him to speak, and he refused on the basis that "god loves you just the way you are". nice to see someone use religion for something other than fearmongering.

jaunch - 2011-10-05

My favorite Rogers story is that Koko (the sign-language gorilla) absolutely loved his show. She watched it every day. So one day he visited her and she went, literally, ape shit. She even took off his shoes for him, because she'd seen him do it so many times on air.

You're a cool mother when you can leave that kind of mark on another species.

Anaxagoras - 2011-10-05

Growing up I had always assumed that Mr. Rogers was just playing a role, like the people in all the other kids shows. Consequently, I never watched much of him.

I missed out on something great while growing up. =(

twinkieafternoon - 2011-10-05

I'm not sure about being neighbors with someone who steals traffic lights.

Good thing he gave it back, though.

hichief - 2011-10-08

Him and Carl Sagan are my idols.

andybrownie - 2011-10-12

kanyakumari - 2011-10-23
