The injured protester there is the Marine shot in the face.

Cena_mark - 2011-10-26

Even I'll admit that was a dick move.

Ursa_minor - 2011-10-26

A bunch of my friends were there last night. Only talked to a few of them, but it seems like shit got brutal pretty quick. That being said, it also seems like there were some anarchist fuckheads in attendance who no doubt made things worse than they needed to be.

Ursa_minor - 2011-10-26

Why this is a reply to Cena, I don't know.

baleen - 2011-10-26

Cena is a cowardly traitor fag not really worth serious consideration on any issue. His life will amount to little.

Cena_mark - 2011-10-26

I was wondering if the people wearing masks were anarchist fucks or if people were using it against a gas the police might have used.

Potter - 2011-10-26

Anarchist or Red Flag Agitators?

Void 71 - 2011-10-26

I went to every major anti-war protest on the east coast back when I lived in New York and the more seasoned protestors and activists always warned people about the anarchists. I actually saw a group of them emerge from behind a police line and sink back in after running around screaming for about 10 minutes. It was plainly obvious that they were undercover cops. That's one of the main reasons I stopped going to protests. Well, that and almost getting swept up in a mass arrest.

wackyakmed - 2011-10-27

The anarchists are the worst. Trying to have a logical discussion concerning why they shouldn't be idiots is like talking ethics to a Saturday morning cartoon villain.

fractured - 2011-10-27

Anarchists have a pretty deep history in the Bay Area and for a lot of people anarchism is a sincere political position (it's not a costume or a set of tactics). I would also say that there are a lot of people who identify as anarchists who are incredibly serious organizers. David Graeber, for instance, played a role in the beginnings of the Occupy Wall Street movement and identifies as an anarchist. He is also an anthropologist who taught at Yale and the University of London. I suggest reading his "Fragments of an Anarchist Anthropology."

I understand that the media representations of anarchists diverge from the above description. I also recognize that the anarchist "costume" has been used by undercover police (usually the buff dudes with nice shoes). But there is so much more than that. Just be careful. It's that sort of othering that led to events like the deaths of Sacco & Vanzetti.

kingarthur - 2011-10-27

Well said, but ideologically and philosophically, I feel that the anarchist mind is one that has simply stopped short of considering the rational outcomes of his position. Granted, I'm a die-hard believer in Marxist economic theory and critique of capitalism and fully believe that some form of socialism is the way to go. I feel like the anarchists are adolescent.

Bored - 2011-10-27

Depends on the anarchist, which is part of the problem. It's a misunderstood philosophy. Some people think it means "no government" but there those of us who are anarchists that trend towards it meaning "no rulers." That is a huge distinction that bears remarking upon. Systems of organization by the people are governments in my mind, and quite ok. Systems or organization with central authority structures are prone to inefficiencies, inconsistencies and are really a thing of the past.

Void 71 - 2011-10-27

I'm sure there are plenty of genuine anarchists, but the ones you causing trouble at protests are generally agent provocateurs.

Change - 2011-10-26

Share these. Share every last fucking one of them.

jangbones - 2011-10-26

Conservatives rant and rave about AMERICAN POLICE STATE and GUBMINT TAKING OVER!!!, but why do I know they don't give a fuck about this?

Cena_mark - 2011-10-26

I don't get that sailor standing around in the protest. Doesn't he know that wearing your uniform in support of a political function is a violation of the UCMJ.

Night Train to Mundo Fine - 2011-10-26

He's probably no longer in the Navy.

baleen - 2011-10-26

Cena, don't you know that the Coast Guard is mocked and derided by real veterans and that your entire life is an utter mockery of people that actually sacrifice things for their country? Do you also know that you are on the wrong side of history once again and that you will die alone, working at Subway, with AIDS.

Anaxagoras - 2011-10-26

He probably realizes that some things are more important than rules. By wearing his uniform, he helps expose the lie that the protestors are all anti-American hippies.

EvilHomer - 2011-10-26

He's not a sailor, he's a Village People cosplayer.

Seriously, though, if he gets UCMJ'd, he gets UCMJ'd. They're already getting pepper sprayed, flashbanged, and shot in the head by DHS goons; what's a few months in the barrel?

pineapplejuicer - 2011-10-26

literally every time i see that a police officer has been wounded or killed in the line of duty i publicly say "oh thats such a shame, what a tragedy" while privately thinking "nice shot"

baleen - 2011-10-26

That's a little fucked up. The fact that some police are responding in positive ways, even joining the protestors, should make you grow up a little.

Cena_mark - 2011-10-26

I hate to admit it, but I agree with Baleen here.

Rovin - 2011-10-26

That's no way to be.

fedex - 2011-10-26

cena mark agrees with baleen? THERE is your singularity!

memedumpster - 2011-10-27

It's not fucked up, they're cops, fuck them. If they wanted to be normal people they wouldn't be cops. Period. They don't have souls so they can't really die anyway.

kingarthur - 2011-10-27

Yeah see, this is what I'm thinking of when I talk about anarchists being adolescents.

pineapplejuicer - 2011-10-27

i KNEW you two were the same person. sleuthed.

fatatty - 2011-10-27

Yeah! End the police force! That will get this country back to greatness!

chairsforcheap - 2011-10-26

this is the singularity

dead_cat - 2011-10-26

Fuuuuuuuuck

Enjoy - 2011-10-26

I learned something from this video: I had no idea flashbangs existed outside of CS:2.

What I didn't learn (because I already knew):

1. The police are useless, professional bullies who need to be repeatedly kicked in the balls until their testosterone drops to an acceptable level.

2. I hope the Flea Party is successful in their revolution so we can divide the country into hardworking, taxpaying America 2.0 and a new Turd World Country ruled by a communist dictator.

B. Weed - 2011-10-26

You sound grouchy. Wife not giving head anymore?

SolRo - 2011-10-26

The injured man is a veteran, he's in the hospital in serious condition from a skull fracture.

sosage - 2011-10-26

I wish I could say that I was shocked it would be the OPD doing this to protesters. They have their own little unique style of blatant "we don't give a fuck, non-cop" attitude.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2011-10-27

Fuck these police, seriously.

Oh wait, Oakland? Business as usual I see.

exar_kun - 2011-12-12

While this video does look damning, I never judge a piece of footage like this until I can see the events leading up it. Any move made by a police officer can look horrible with the proper editing.

I also understand that many police departments are less then optimal, and like any profession they have their less then honorable people who do things they should not.

But I have never understood people's juvenile unilateral hatred of the police. I also hate people who armchair quarterback based off of bad footage and or incomplete information. These are sure signs that they have never worn a uniform and been faced with a dangerous situation/hostile crowd/riot etc. Things look very different when faced with a group of people that suddenly turn against you, you fear for your safety, and your adrenaline kicks in.

Nominal - 2019-03-25

Maybe people have had genuine shitty experience with dickhead cops that's only gotten worse with their militarization? Something a lily suburbanite like you has zero experience with?

In your mind, it's the protestors who are lacking perspective. Only those who have WORN THE UNIFORM can possibly know what it's like to face down an unarmed crowd with tactical body armor, rubber bullets, flashbangs, and tear gas.

Idiots like you will ignore real footage of police brutality and decide the stronger evidence is imagining potential situations of feral crowds tearing apart squads of riot police like some zombie movie (a situation that has NEVER HAPPENED) unless all possible force and ordnance is used against protestors.

idiot
