Just listen to the debates, Santorum even said once that deporting illegal immigrants isn't that bad because it's "not like we're sending them to Siberia or anything." You know, because Mexico in its current state is a tropical island paradise in comparison to.. some place that's really cold, I guess.

Yes, it's completely fucking different. One is a kid crying because someone they admired is dead. The other is a ritualized display of compulsory grief, a horrifying demonstration of how utterly insane cults of personality are, and proof that the stain Kim Jong-Il left on North Korea will remain for years to come.

In both cases I think it's an image that they admired. Neither kid had any idea as to what their leader's policies were (and what effects they had, read: Vietnam) or how great a husband either was.

I mean, just about any leader has some sort of personality cult around him (I think it would be hard to argue that JFK didn't have 'charisma').

Yeah, it's probably a lot better living in America, but I don't know how you could argue that children crying over dead leaders (whom they've never even seen in person) is anything other than ritualized displays of compulsory grief. Sure, it looks pretty exaggerated from the video, but the principle isn't really different.
