When I was in 10th grade, we had to do presentations on various elements from the Periodic Table.
I did a miniature remake of The Shining, and had to explain good ol' Au. I'd KILL for that tape right now and I don't know what happened to it.

Planned to drop out after getting a feel for it 5 minutes in, had to watch the whole thing straight through.

Paracelsus - 2012-02-09
Truly, an interesting beard grown mangy from lack of Occam's Razor. Interesting though.

And after reading
http://www.collativelearning.com/the%20shining.html
I thought it was all about little Jack planning the murder of his father over sexual abuse.
and after reading http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/luna/luna_apollomissions10.htm and other spots it was about him faking the moon landings.
Man, Kubrick works on so many levels...

badideasinaction - 2012-02-09 Actually, never mind, that first analysis is from the same guy... weird.

That guy - 2012-02-11 Same guy, huh?
I guess he found a better cockamamie theory for his non-accredited dissertation.
Thanks for those links though.
And I'm painfully entertained by the idea that all of a great filmmaker's continuity errors are moments of transcendent genius with a secret message.

So ... is this insane or not? Because I honestly can't tell. I'm not a goldbug but I think much of the criticism of the fed is valid even if the conclusions are questionable. I have NO IDEA if the dot-connecting about the movie is well-founded or not.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-02-10 Who gives a fuck? Stan wasn't some prophet sent from the sky. He's just a film director. He didn't possess some secret divine code left for future generations to crack.
|
Paracelsus - 2012-02-10 Will, it makes no sense at all. It's a tenuous, extremely defensive set of arguments with paper-thin justification.
|
chumbucket - 2012-02-10
This is what happens when directors don't include commentary on the DVD.
