The Secret Life of Machines taught me how incredible sewing machines are. However to do anything useful with them requires a lot of skill and a lot of practice.

badideasinaction - 2012-03-10 Cost-wise, sewing is rarely useful nowadays - for anything you can get at a major retailer the retail fabric cost alone to make a garment often exceeds the price of the same finished item, so not even factoring time, you're already behind.
I sew, and entertained the thought of making my own stuff, but working out the numbers I'd probably be even or ahead if I just moonlighted at Starbucks instead and bought it. If you want to make something unique, well, I guess there's that, but look to the videos for "unique" fashions and realize why most major clothing designs don't change very much, they just cycle the current trends.

Old_Zircon - 2012-03-11 Not that I know of, but there are plenty of affordable, non-chain fabric stores around, at least in New England. I think it's down to whether you're comparing it to the most affordable, utilitarian, slave-labor clothes or astronomically overpriced designer stuff (that's probably also made by slave labor).

All this new stuff needs a Crazy Dave tag, or at least CDTCrew.

Those who had one of the widely copied Star Wars Christmas Special tapes fell into one of two camps: the American Sewing Association or the Frizzy Fighters (at Eleven).

BiggerJ - 2012-03-10 Damn, I got this video mixed up with something else before watching it.

I had to use a sewing machine to repair my trousers after watching this video.

Are we sure this is just about sewing?
