Mitt Romney is going to spend most of this election running against himself.

Bort - 2012-04-13

Mitt Romney is going to spend most of this election muddying the waters so a huge number of voters will say, "I don't know what to believe!"

Tobster - 2012-04-13

You know, if Mitt Romney somehow wins, I think America really ought to reconsider if it's cut out for this whole "being an independent country" thing. Because goddamn you'd have to be stupid to vote for the guy.

sosage - 2012-04-13

If Bush Jr. wasn't bad enough to get that revoked, no one is.

glasseye - 2012-04-14

Magic underwear aside, I have to agree that the shrub was worse.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-04-13

Mitt Romney is a man of 1000 faces that say different things depending on who's listening but all look exactly the same.

chumbucket - 2012-04-13

I forever think Mitt Romney is the Guy Smiley of politics.

themilkshark - 2012-04-13

This isn't an "attack ad" especially considering how volatile political media has become. It's informative though, and really put together well.

GravidWithHate - 2012-04-13

There are plenty of people out there who are, putting it mildly, somewhat dissapointed that the best Obama and the Democratic Party could manage was to implement a Republican healthcare proposal.

Adds that seek to convince people that there's no difference between Romney and Obama on major policy issues strike me as rather dangerous, particularly given the already disaffected left wing.

PegLegPete - 2012-04-13

Yeah, the truth is pretty dangerous for politics. However, the people in the video only really went as far as to say "at it's core" Obama Care is the same, so without the differences - assuming there are any - being highlighted, the ad is misleading. Although having people who actually constructed the original "template", and who have probably read the relevant documentation (we'd have to ask them), it's pretty disparaging for Romney.

Most of the left-wing will probably rationalize instead of polarize themselves from Obama Care, if they even supported it in the first place. For example: it's just another sign of Obama's nature of cooperation with the right-wing. See how easy it is?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-04-13

The left wing doesn't have to rationalize anything when the choice is a center-right Obama vs. someone who wants to cut taxes even more for the rich, ban abortion, practically ban birth control, etc.

Saying both parties are the same is complete bullshit. Are the democrats perfect? Hardly. Are they the party that seems just a hair away from snake handling rituals with the Koch Brothers? That would be the other guys.

Bort - 2012-04-13

Too many folks on the left somehow think they elected an emperor, and can't wrap their heads around the importance of Congress. When Medicare was passed, there were 70 Democrats in the Senate. How many are in there now? Barely a majority.

The Democrats have been limping along with a minority, or at best a narrow majority, for 20 years now; it's no wonder they can't get things done. Even Obama's legendary "filibuster-proof" Senate existed for no more than six months, and to beat a Republican filibuster, it meant every single Democrat, plus Sanders, plus Lieberman had to be on board. Lieberman campaigned AGAINST Obama, so yeah.

If you want to start seeing big changes, do what elderly Republicans do, and vote even in mid-term elections. Liberal turnout in 2010 was no better than that of the general population; that's no way to get things done.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-04-13

You're saying the Democrats have had a narrow majority for the past 20 years?

If you're that completely clueless, then it's no wonder your "analysis" of what the electorate thinks is about as informative as what's printed on a Happy Meal box.

memedumpster - 2012-04-13

Bort gets five. He's my favorite neocon, and has successfully made me change my party affiliation to "fuck all of you equally."

Bort - 2012-04-13

SteamPoweredKleenex, you cannot be this stupid. Or maybe you can. What I said is "The Democrats have been limping along with a minority, or at best a narrow majority, for 20 years now." Your link shows just that. Granted, the House is in flux a lot, but look at the Senate: between 45 and 57 Senators for 20 years now ... nowhere near the 70 the Democrats had when Medicare was passed.

memedumpster, fuck you right back. You are the reason "Progressives" can't get anything done. I don't mean people like you, I mean you personally.

memedumpster - 2012-04-13

Bort is the Cena Mark of Democrats. *

* please forgive me, Cena.

glasseye - 2012-04-14

This man wears MAGIC UNDERWEAR.

That is all.

FABIO - 2012-04-14

Bort is right.

The rest are Daily Show Democrat dumb.

Screwtape - 2012-04-13

Flip floppin' didn't work for Kerrey, McCain, and it won't work for Mittens.

Nikon - 2012-04-13

Romney should carry around a D20 and roll it to determine how he feels about his allies, opponents, and positions.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-04-13

Even if Romney wins, just remember: we all lived through Bush Jr.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-04-13

Arlington's got a whole lot of spots reserved for the people who didn't.

memedumpster - 2012-04-13

Not buried in the right places, mind you...

Nikon - 2012-04-18

Five shiny ghost stars for Caminante.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-04-13

Mitt Romney is basically Harvey Two-Face.

Romney's explicitly said that healthcare should be provided at the state rather than federal level.

Also: "Romney could argue, however, that Obama didn't use the Massachusetts plan as a model but rather drew on the proposal put forth by Richard Nixon almost 40 years earlier."

http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/25/opinion/altman-romney-obama-heal th-care/index.html

Thank you, American political system, and poetv, for putting me in the envious position of having to defend Mitt Romney.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-04-13

Should we thank the American educational system for you missing this part?

"The Romney and Obama plans created state-based private insurance exchanges to make insurance more accessible and affordable to small business and individuals.

President Obama has been heavily criticized by conservatives because his plan includes a mandate for all individuals to have insurance or pay a penalty. Romney, too, has joined those criticizing the president, yet his plan in Massachusetts included just such a mandate."

Also, the article doesn't state WHEN Romney said he favors only a state-oriented program. Just this morning, the news was recounting his old positions on gun control (he was for it) and abortion (pro choice) when he was governor of Massachusetts.

American Standard - 2012-04-14

Yep. Etch-A-Sketch.

People who oppose health care reform, and their sole reason for doing so is because it came from a donkey instead of an elephant, are the fucking core of everything wrong with American politics.
