Hmm... more or less badass than the pain of getting the tattoo in the first place?
I mean, come on. Localized sub-dermal explosions!
Sounds like a helicopter.

Dr. Tatt-off. I guess you really only have a few career choices with that name.

Lasers are neat!

I've been in the process of removing a tattoo on my stomach. I finished my 5th session last month. I probably have 1-2 more to go. I believe I have a pretty high threshold for pain: I've done 7-8 hour sittings on other tattoos, and combat sports are a favorite hobby of mine. That said, tattoo removal is probably the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I did the first couple with any "assistance", but after that I picked up some EMLA, which is topical lidocaine. It does a good job of blocking most (but not all) of the pain. Recovery is a bitch, too, as everything blisters up.
Nope. Here's my (layman's) understanding of the whole awful process: tattoos are permanent because the ink is too thick to be taken care of by the body's immune system. So the laser penetrates the skin and when it runs into the ink, about a millimeter or so deep, it breaks it up so that it can now be dealt with. The process has a strange effect on the tattoo as it gets foggy and milky for a little while and then, about three weeks later, it actually starts to fade.
So, like I've said, I've sat through 7-8 hour tattoo sessions, stopping only to piss or grab a bite to eat. Well, my first couple of removal sessions only lasted about two minutes, tops... and I asked to take two breaks. Doctors that perform tattoo removal like to describe the sensation as being similar to a rubber band snap, but they don't mention that the rubber band is made out of hot grease.

Seeing people getting tattoos I know they'll regret forever just lost appeal. :(
But this process is far more painful and far more expensive, so it's like they're getting triple fucked.

Because I'm such a financial genius, I had the brilliant insight fifteen years ago that I ought to invest heavily in a company that produces this sort of equipment. But at the time I was making eight dollars an hour with a savings account that couldn't even invest in a pack of gum.

This guy is a champ. I hope he's getting some hard painkillers for the ride home.
