Well... you do have to consider the fact that it's a fashion doll. It's not like they're going to drastically change how they present a million dollar toy franchise. And it's a heck of a lot better than having Barbie say "Math is hard" and "Cooking is fun". These are actually funny and while they don't present Strong Female Characters(http://harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=311) they also don't have the girls fawning hopelessly over boys all the time. For Barbie from the 80's this is practically a feminist manifesto.
