I dont think that kind of shitty behaviour (eg. misogyny) is really related to computer games.. Usually you just have these awful "gamer guys" who are just into the crappy stuff from many different media types including computer games ,film, tv, etc.
I really love computer games, I think theyve had a really positive enriching influence on me. Atm I'm getting out of an architecture career (jobs market is fooked atm) and hoping to get into the games development.

sosage - 2012-07-13 Only come to game development if you enjoy disappointment, soul sucking management and slave hours. Odds are incredibly good you will work on a team with creative people, trying to create the vision of sickeningly uncreative individuals. It's one of the very few careers where diversifying your skill sets and being good at multiple things is considered a bad thing, but being OCD at one otherwise useless skill set is considered great. Your prize at the end of 3-6 months of crunch time is typically a slice of pizza and a pink slip. I lie. Pizza is implied, but sometimes there is no pizza.
By all means, take a break from architecture and come over for a visit. But I wouldn't advice living here.

Don't forget that Penny Arcade was also the comic who, when criticized by women gamers for frequently making "rape" jokes, decided to spend thousands of dollars making PAX t-shirts that featured nothing but a single comic panel in which a rape joke was being made and then allowed their website forums to be overrun with people posting rape threats at the women gamers who called them out on their bullshit.
