They're putting him on TV? Successful troll is successful.

sosage - 2012-10-19

In the year 2012, who are these segments created for? The five people left on earth that do not know what the Internet is?

Old People - 2012-10-19

This is some hard-hitting journalism right here. They've found some perverted, unlikable loser whom they can dogpile without consequence, and they devote nearly a quarter of an hour to his sordid little non-story.

Anaxagoras - 2012-10-19

I dunno. That was pretty satisfying.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-10-20

Our search engines and websites like YOUTUBE tend to feed our preferences back to us in the hope of making the web more comprehensible, and it can have the effect of making it seem much less vast than it actually is. I was on the web for ten years before POETV introduced me to Boxxy, and thereby to 4chan, anonymous, internet memes, and a much more sophisticated idea of what a troll is. I discovered poe some years earlier through a link from somethingawful, a site that my son introduced me to.

I've still never been to reddit, though my friends at BoNews tell me that I'd love it. I think it was meant as an insult.

I don't know what kind of news show this is supposed to be, but the internet is a huge part of our culture that's still taking shape, trolls are a huge part of the internet, and the chance to question one of these fuckers face to face is pretty rare. I think this is worth fifteen minutes of cable news coverage , even if I couldn't make it past five minutes.

Old_Zircon - 2012-10-20

I went to Bo News for about 15 minutes last night. Its forum culture seems closer to Reddit than to old Poe red. How they got JSP is a mystery to me.

BHWW - 2012-10-19

I started a jailbait subReddit and uploaded 1GB of pics to it myself but ha ha, I was just trolling! Joke's on you suckers!

Also he purportedly claimed to have had "sex" with his stepdaughter (but jokingly of course), what kind of person would...oh right, Reddit.

PS Reddit is a toilet.

magnesium - 2012-10-19

The best part about all of this is that because he was outed, he lost his job (well that's not the best part, I guess), so his fans on Reddit are donating money to him to thank him for everything he's done. So then he goes on TV and blames his asshattery on those same Reddit fans because they egged him on. This guy knows how to troll. He's a god-awful piece of shit, though.

Hooker - 2012-10-19

That is actually a pretty good troll, come to think of it.

deadpan - 2012-10-19

It's kind of hard to claim the puppet master defense when you've just seen your entire life unravel.

-1 star for not bringing up the evidence that this guy is probably an IRL sex offender.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-10-19

And now I know what Reddit users look like.

Old_Zircon - 2012-10-19

Pretty much what I expected.

Macho Nacho - 2012-10-20

If that wasn't enough you can find what more of them look like here:

Old_Zircon - 2012-10-20

Oh man, that tumblr evokes the most mixed feelings.

TheQuakeSoldier - 2012-10-19

The anonymity of the internet allows people to be who they really are. Once unmasked and held accountable for their words and actions, they need to resort to the usual bullshitting, lying, and manipulating needed to survive in everyday society.

I'd rather see a scumbag be a scumbag than to coexist with scumbags who only pretend to be decent people under threat of ostracism.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-10-20

The idea that the urge to be a scumbag is somehow more "authentic" than the urge to not be a scumbag is perversely romantic nonsense.

Old_Zircon - 2012-10-20

Also pretty well debunked by biologists.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-10-20

That's not to suggest that anonymity doesn't allow people to be more fully themselves in a whole lot of important ways, but it's mostly adolescent boys who push the internet doctrine that "hate is more honest", and therefore more noble, than kindness. That's bullshit. Hate lies like hell.

The present case pretty much says it all. What was honest and genuine about this guy's "jailbait" forum? I haven't seen it (or reddit) but it seems like it was nothing but lies.

Old_Zircon - 2012-10-19

Fucking hell, trolls are on CNN, we live in a mad world.

urbanelf - 2012-10-20

Did he just troll CNN or did CNN just troll me?

SkeletonMichelle - 2012-10-20

Easily my favorite part of this clip is the way Anderson smoothly takes off his glasses at the start and informs us all, apropos of nothing, that he was just finishing up some writing. Magnificent.

Macho Nacho - 2012-10-20

I just love the part where this asshole shows off his gold-plated bobble head "trophy" to the interviewer as if he would reciprocate the same admiration. Instead the interviewer just becomes more disgustingly perplexed by the guy in front of him.

Chancho - 2012-10-20

It's a gold-plated trophy for pedophilia. Pretty cool, eh?

Old_Zircon - 2012-10-20

The weird thing is that, given Reddit's influence on Internet pop culture and the Internet's influence on all pop culture, that gold bobblehead isn't actually all that far off from getting an oscar for pedophilia.
