thirty years later, the GOP still campaigns by Atwater's blueprints

truly one of the most loathesome characters in American history

""I try to live as if I have at least three years, but some nights I can't go to sleep, so fearful am I that I will never wake up again.""

Say hi to Willie and Ronnie for me.

The reason this is hitting the internet now is that the audio of this was just recently re-located. For years Republicans have tried to claim this interview never happened.

Jimmy Carter's grandson comes through, again!

See, Dubya? THAT'S how you take revenge on your ancestors' foes.

Downloaded in case it goes away suddenly or I find a way to set up a bullet proof public installation on a loop connected to a megaphone.

STATES RIGHTS!

Herschell Gordon Lewis' last film before his return was a little hillbilly epic called "The Year of the Yahoo!", where he got a regional country music star to play...a regional country music star who runs for Congress, and while he initially is very successful, he decides, against the wishes of his managers, to support busing. As a result, he loses all of his support and loses spectacularly. I don't know why, but that film came into my mind when I listened to this.

"In the lead-up to the infamous remarks, it is fascinating to witness the confidence with which Atwater believes himself to be establishing the racial innocence of latter-day Republican campaigning: “My generation,” he insists, “will be the first generation of Southerners that won’t be prejudiced.” "

What a hero!

I have read this many times but never heard the actual audio before. Amazing.

As true today, as when it was spoken.
