Fuck it. Five stars for reminding me why I don't go to Salem on Halloween.

Paracelsus - 2012-12-14

Salem sucks anyway. Or at least the useless Witch Museum. Eight bucks to visit a headshop.

EvilHomer - 2012-12-14

When you think about it, everything in Massholevania sucks. All year round.

EXCEPT FOR WOOSTAH.

It looks like people all have video screens embedded in their heads.

I love AronRa but he makes some terrible arguments here. He's too angry to argue the point properly. Ultimately, when confronted with a creationist, there really is no way to reason them out of their belief (as it was not reasoned into). My response to this whole argument would simply be the Richard Dawkinsesque response: If you can disprove hundreds of years of established science, than please do. Claim the Nobel Prize and have your name go down in all Earth history as the person who proved the existence of a creator and the dismantling of evolutionary theory. End of conversation...I have better things to do.

"when confronted with a creationist, there really is no way to reason them out of their belief (as it was not reasoned into)."
This isn't true and I am pretty tired of seeing it.

You can lead a horse to reason but you can't make it think.

Demolishing faith is pretty easy: The Bible is just a book, and the only reason to believe otherwise is because the book itself says it's true - and that's clearly circular logic.

People believe the book to be literally true anyway because they have faith, which they claim is a virtue. But how do we know what to have faith in? Is it equally virtuous to have faith in Satan or the Flying Spaghetti Monster or the belief that I, personally, am Emperor of the Galaxy and that all people must bow down before me or be destroyed? The answer you usually get is that we know to have faith in the God of the Bible because it says so in the Bible itself, which, again, is circular logic.

It takes about 30 seconds to explain this to a person, but go ahead and try it out on as many religious people as you like and see how many times it will work. They aren't interested in reason, they're interested in feeling better about themselves by divorcing themselves from reality. Reality is cold and unforgiving and is hard to sell to idiots and people so down on their luck that religion is pretty much the only thing going for them.
