Welp, see you guys on Mars.

Binro the Heretic - 2013-01-10

It looked at me.

I've never figured out what the proper orientation of a squid (or octopus) is...does it consider its mantle its head? Or its legs its tail?

Simillion - 2013-01-11

You didn't pay enough fucking attention during biology. It isn't our job to help you with that, that's google's job. I know the answers to all your sixth grade questions, but I won't deprive you of this chance to practice a basic life skill.

Also, you started smoking weed too early in life, I bet. Consider taking a break from that shit while you learn yourself something.

lulz, you guys.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-01-11

It's made of 100% desire to kill you.

The tentacles are actually different brains, all looking to make contact with you...to touch you...to hear your mind.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-01-11

Also, I fantasized about this so much as a kid and I can't believe it's actually right in front of me now. Good job, Japanese TV crew!

Innocent Bystander - 2013-01-11

"This video is not available in your country."

For some reason that scares me.

kingarthur - 2013-01-11

Those eyes.

Pillager - 2013-01-11

The better to see which part of you to eat first.

WallyTheWonderBadger - 2013-01-11

"Japanese film crew" = it's a guy in a rubber suit

Void 71 - 2013-01-11

I'm sure they harpooned it right after they ran out of film.

memedumpster - 2013-01-11

I have waited for this moment ever since I was a child and saw an old image of a half rotted one pulled out of the water by a freighter. It took me a week to watch this video out of fear.

Also, the giant eye description in Childhood's End bothered the shit out of me, and this creature has that eye, the one that looked at me from the pit of an alien museum all those years ago.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-01-12

Oh yeah! I had the opposite reaction to it when I read that book in sixth grade. I was just glad they couldn't find an actual giant squid because I would have felt sorry for it if they had killed it.

But the part of that book that really freaked me out was, you know, everyone on Earth becoming a hivemind being.

Pets of the elder gods tag?

Sanest Man Alive - 2013-01-15

Hooray! We've finally found our aquatic overlords! I imagine they'll be rather angry that we dared to gaze upon them before mass psychotropic subjugation was complete, and we'll all endure a century of torment in the Abyss of Writhing Isopods for our temerity, but it's just wonderful to know they're really THERE, watching us and weaving unknowable horrors into our collective fate until the final death of the hated sky-flame brings their slithering hordes to the surface!
