I love this film but Julie Taymor's been a horrible disappointment ever since - I had hopes she'd rise to Greenaway stature in my personal canon.

Say, how about that Prospero's Books? I read a review that said "You won't be looking at your watch; you'll be checking your pulse.", but I felt like it blew a church door out the back of my head.

When the discussion over Whedon's Shakespeare was occurring, this is exactly the movie I was thinking of.

I only hope that Breaking Bad as a greek tragedy can end with half the gusto Titus did. The last scene in this movie raised goosebumps for me.

What extravagant revenge! He tells the murdering princes what he's going to do with their bodies, in detail... and then, he cuts their throats. Revenge is an ignoble motive, and a revenge play is an ignoble play, a guilty pleasure at the very least. No wonder bardolators were trying to deny Shakespeare's authorship, at least for much of the early 20th century.

The best Shakespeare play, and the best Shakespeare adaptation.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-15

I don't agree that it's the best Shakespeare play, not at all, but the fact that you think so somehow convinces me that you are an awesome motherfucker.

Gmork - 2013-03-15

I guess that makes me awesome as well. I preferred his hamfisted first play to any other he's done.

Gmork - 2013-03-15

would anyone be surprised if I said I preferred Proust?

This play was the high point of my initial failed attempt to become an English major. Everything was going great until the Histories semester.

This is why I have an art degree.

Mr. Bad Example - 2013-03-15

I love this play so much, and this is the best version of it I've ever seen.
