Now, if you do an independent search for this video, you get page after page of "talking head on a webcam" videos.

There was a time when a video that a corporation was trying to suppress with copyright claims would pop back up 10 times for every one they managed to swat down.

Now, peoples need to make response video blogs and to promote their personal brands have done more to stifle media propagation than a parent corporation could ever dream of doing.

Here you go:

To the man who waited on me
At the Starbucks down on Main
I hope you understand
When I put on that t-shirt
The only thing I meant to say
Is I’m a Skynyrd fan

The red flag on my chest is somehow like the elephant
In the corner of the South
And I just walked him right in the room

Just a proud rebel son
With an old can of worms
Looking like I’ve got a lot to learn
But from my point of view

I’m just a white man
Coming to you from the Southland
Trying to understand what it’s like not to be
I’m proud of where I’m from
But not everything we’ve done
And it ain’t like you and me to rewrite history
Our generation didn’t start this nation
We’re still picking up the pieces
Walking over eggshells
Fighting over yesterday
And caught between southern pride
And southern blame

They called it Reconstruction
Fixed the buildings, dried some tears
We’re still sifting’ through the rubble
After 150 years
I’ll try to put myself in your shoes
And that’s a good place to begin
It ain’t like I can walk a mile
In someone else’s skin

‘Cause I’m just a white man
Living in the Southland
Just like you, I’m more than what you see
I’m proud of where I’m from
And not everything we’ve done
And it ain’t like you and me to rewrite history
Our generation didn’t start this nation
And we’re still paying for the mistakes
Than a bunch of folks made
Long before we came
Caught somewhere between southern pride
And southern blame

[LL Cool J]
Dear Mr. White Man, I wish you understood
What the world is really like when you’re living in the hood
Just because my pants are saggin’ doesn’t mean I’m up to no good
You should try to get to know me, I really wish you would
Now my chains are gold, but I’m still misunderstood
I wasn’t there when Sherman’s March turned the south into firewood
I want you to get paid, but be a slave I never could
Feel like a new-fangled Django dogging invisible white hoods
So when I see that white cowboy hat, I’m thinking it’s not all good
I guess we’re both guilty of judging the cover, not the book
I’d love to buy you a beer, conversate and clear the air
But I see that red flag and I think you wish I wasn’t here

I’m just a white man
(If you don’t judge my do-rag)
Coming to you from the southland
(I won’t judge your red flag)
Trying to understand what it’s like not to be
I’m proud of where I’m from
(If you forget my gold chains)
But not everything we’ve done
(I’ll forget the iron chains)
It ain’t like you and me can rewrite history
(Can’t rewrite history, baby)
Oh, Dixieland
(The relationship between the Mason-Dixon needs some fixing’)
I hope you understand what this is all about
(Quite frankly, I’m a black Yankee, but I’ve been thinking about this lately)
I’m a son of the New South
(The past is the past, you feel me)
And I just want to make things right
(Let bygones be bygones)
Where all that’s left is southern pride
(RIP Robert E. Lee, but I’ve gotta thank Abraham Lincoln for freeing me, know what I mean)

Thanks Spikes for turning that into a much briefer experience. Your service, along with some of the worst rapping anyone's ever heard, are star-worthy.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-04-09

I think this is one of the money shots:

"I’m proud of where I’m from
(If you forget my gold chains)
But not everything we’ve done
(I’ll forget the iron chains)"

Equating jewelry with shackles and owning people? WTF?

Kabbage - 2013-04-09

Holy shit

Kabbage - 2013-04-09

"The relationship between the Mason-Dixon needs some fixin’ " is just

my favorite line of anything this decade

kingarthur - 2013-04-09

I can't wait til the local conservatards and country radio stations start playing this non stop in a misguided attempt to show how oppressed the Southern white Christian man is. I was attending Ole Miss during Mississippi's vote on whether or not to remove the rebel flag from the state flag (hint: they voted to keep it) and such stupidity you've never seen.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-04-09

I hate living in the South.

memedumpster - 2013-04-09

Thank god. If you don't hate it, you're broken beyond human.

simon666 - 2013-04-09

Maybe the idea behind this song wasn't executed very well, but I'm not sure I get the hoopla.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-09

Rednecks trying to get our sympathy. Fuck that! I know for a fact that working class white people share a certain set of negative characteristics based on their heritage. They're morally and intellectually flawed because of their backwards pre-modern culture and inbred hick genes, and I don't need no goddamn Hollywood LIEbrals running their mouths, with their oogity-boogity country hip hop, tryin' to tell me that's ign'ant!

Stopheles - 2013-04-09

HARD like Haystacks Calhoun. Callin' ME a bigot? Boy, I'm just a buffoon!

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-04-09

"HELP! WE WHITE SOUTHERNERS WHO LIKE TO FAULT ANTI-AMERICAN, PRO-BLACK ENSLAVEMENT SYMBOLS, ARE BEING OPPRESSED!"

Fuck the south. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore.

Bort - 2013-04-09

I can get the argument that they're taking pride in only the non-racial culture of the South (assuming some or most of them are sincere about that), but the solution is to find some symbol of the South that isn't all about loving slavery so much that you'd fight to establish a new slavery-perpetuating nation.

Even Honey Boo Boo is a more positive emblem of the South than the Confederate Flag.

kingarthur - 2013-04-09

Exactly. Every time the local Volks get all encouraged about something bringing jobs to the area you just have to sigh for the poor ignorant bastards who are being exploited for their lower wages lower standard of living and right to work laws. Why do I still live here? Because between living and making enough money to survive, I can't afford to move. So you know, yeeeeeeee haawwwwwwwww

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-04-10

I want to see the original video soooo bad now.

Bringing people together. One stereotype at a time!

bac - 2013-04-10

I've been reading a lot of the "anti -racism is codeword for anti-white" blogs lately There isn't any thinly veiled racism because its all outright racism Just horrible horrible ignorant humans. With that on my mind...

I don't think a majority of people who have confederate flag pride are half as racist as those white pride fucks. and as such I think this song (Even with the ungodly horrible "iron chain" line, and it's undertone of "well isn't slavery kinda everybody's fault?" ) is a good thing.

Keep in mind folks, this song is trying to speak to people on the low end of denominators.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-04-10

There were black people selling black people in slavery days. And by slavery days I mean, today.

TeenerTot - 2013-04-10

I have no interest in this video. These stars are cuz I think LL Cool J is good-lookin.

Scurrie - 2013-04-14

Was going to submit this video to balance things out, but it's already here.
