I grew up with Sesame St. songs and my parents listening to Rain Dogs. Got the two confused until I was like 17. :)

Take a look at the lyrics to this song- they're brutal. Reminds me of the time my whole squad was cooped up in the back of a Bradley fighting vehicle for an entire day. The dust seal was busted and everything was filthy and loud and claustrophobic, and I'd taken too much Ripped Fuel (thinking I needed to be fired up for an assault) and I was thinking to myself over and over again "how the fuck did it come to this? Humans were made for playing and running and eating and making love, and instead things have come to such a pass that men are cooped up in a metal box roaring around the desert looking for people to kill". It sounds trite as hell, but when these thoughts come to visit while you're on the front lines, they fucking hurt. Up until then I'd been pretty fired up about combat; afterwards I often found myself thinking if I get crippled out here over this bullshit I will never forgive myself. Later I saw two guys at Fort Benning whose faces had been burnt off, like Freddy Krueger, and neither could have been more than 25 years old.
The real kicker is that after I got out of the Army, life was so fucking boring that I missed being at war.

I love that movie; the combat scenes are silly but otherwise it captures the look and feel of Iraq, and the Army of the time, better than any other film. As to the supermarket scene, I know guys who've felt the way the main character does in the scene, but honestly the first supermarket I went to when I got back felt like paradise- I bought about 0 of booze and stupid sugary/fatty shit and was perfectly happy.
