This is a far more practical idea than kinect.
It also seems much better thought out and advanced as a project.

Of course I wont use it.. I game with my eyeballs right up against my big pc monitor :)

Actually this would help ameliorate the big problem that all 1st person console games seem to have where the default FOV is always something ridiculously low like 60'

I like it.

Downside is that playing in a dark room strains your eyes, and a projector bright enough to work in a lit up room would be expensive.

Prickly Pete - 2013-05-11

This looks phat to me. If it looks like this in concept then imagine what they'll be able to do a few decades from now.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-11

This stuff has been around for a while, but right now it's expensive and labor intensive to do.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-11

a couple of these plus max/MSP.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2013-05-11

I wonder how my RealDoll will react to this.

"The user places the projector device on their coffee table."

Because all living rooms are built with the same land-use considerations as Seattle, and thus have plenty of room for the FOV cone of the projector/camera system!

There are no dense urban populations that have constrained living quarters. There are no small homes.

Also, what the everloving fuck is the point of watching video where there's a tiny clear window into a huge blurry mess? It's almost as though this concept were designed by engineers with no conceptual knowledge of art.

fluffy - 2013-05-12

dude, have you ever seen a typical Seattle living room? This IS a dense urban area.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-05-11

Stupid, useless crap.

hughmanatee - 2013-05-12

not buying a coffee table.

memedumpster - 2013-05-12

Whatever, yawn.*

*This is fucking awesome.

They had me at self-calibrating texture projection with commodity hardware.
