Comeuppance - 2013-05-19
I love this show, and would love it more if it was basically just Data all the time. Who gives a shit about crew member X having his/her body taken over by an alien? That happens five times a week on that ship.
Everything Data does is solid gold, though. In fact, Data living with Klingons sounds like the premise for a really good book.

DriverStabby - 2013-05-19 I would be in favor of Data-centric Trek.
I had an idea years ago for a spin off called "Worf," that would have put Worf on Earth, having had to take a desk job with the Federation, so that he could care for his ailing parents (he'd been raised by humans, you'll remember). The entire show would have been Worf, just being Worf, and trying to adjust to life in the suburbs. The neighbor's dog poops on his lawn, Worf challenges him to a bat'leth duel. Worf gets invited to play a game of touch football with the neighborhood dads, he accidentally kills a couple of them. You get the idea. It would have been gold.

boner - 2013-05-19 Data doesn't sleep, I assume he has enough free time to have a second job somewhere.

DriverStabby - 2013-05-19 Michael Dorn is not a fine actor. The only thing he ever did competently was Worf, and that is because the roll called for a constant surly monotone.
|
Xenocide - 2013-05-19 I think you're overanalyzing this (which marks the first time ever that someone overanalyzed Star Trek on the internet.)
TNG's cast was not just a dilution of the Kirk/Spock/McCoy trio. In fact the creators went out of their way to avoid replicating the first ship's dynamics, because they knew it would be pointless. That's why on TNG you have a gruff, well-read diplomat as captain instead of a horny space cowboy, and they stuck a Klingon on the Enterprise bridge after his species spent the entirety of the original series trying to eat Kirk's pancreas.

EvilHomer - 2013-05-19 I really liked the guy who played Han Solo.

|
kingarthur - 2013-05-20 Fund the Worf and Data and Barclay sitcoms please.
|
Caminante Nocturno - 2013-05-20 Michael Dorn was also in Westwood's Dune game and he did a fine job there.

The Mothership - 2013-05-19
Yea, that's a good clip.

urbanelf - 2013-05-19
I don't understand this scene at all. The klingon may as well be having this conversation with a big wrench.
|
Comeuppance - 2013-05-19 Fuck off, Commander Bruce Maddox.
|
urbanelf - 2013-05-19 He's the Enterprise's oil filter, for fuck's sake.

Klingon vs. Really Polite Informative Command Decision Vending Machine.
|
urbanelf - 2013-05-19 You can't call him a vending machine without comeuppance blowing a gasket.

Change - 2013-05-19 Why are you being all weird?

Hooker - 2013-05-19
There's a scene in this show where they're in present time and in a motel, and room service phones and asks if they want the room serviced, and Riker, who answered the phone, panics and says no. Data and probably Worf are also there, and they all exchange confused looks, and then Data just blurts out something to the effect of, "I believe they wanted to clean the room, sir."
He just made a guess based on what the words "room" and "service" meant. Data is not a brilliant character.
|
Hooker - 2013-05-20 Also, this scene is just a Klingon pratfalling, which I think is like 50% of the humour on this show. I probably should have gone with one star.

sosage - 2013-05-20
It's typically Worf's job to play the comedy relief, awkwardly clumsy Klingon. This must've been filmed during Michael Dorn's smoke break.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-05-20
That Klingon just got Data'd!
How do you "Data" someone?
After besting them, state an informative fact in a calm, matter-of-fact tone.
BAM! You just got Data'd!
