To be fair, I used to do that in college. I had a split-screen TV where I'd listen to a show on one half, watch the game and play it on the other. There was usually music in the apartment and people talking.
That said, the fact that I could do this with a CRT and a Gamecube just shows unimpressive all this innovation is. Plus I only did that for games which didn't require much attention, like Mario Kart. For a game I actually wanted to focus on, like Eternal Darkness, these things are just distractions.
Since I can do everything the Xbox advertises on my phone now EXCEPT immersive gaming, you think they'd make that a priority.

This thing is going to be one of the biggest disasters in the history of console gaming.

Nominal - 2013-05-25 Hey don't sell the Wii U short.
|
Spaceman Africa - 2013-05-25 I hope this generation causes another video game crash.
|
Caminante Nocturno - 2013-05-26 I didn't really take predictions of a console market crash seriously until the XBox One.
|
StanleyPain - 2013-05-26 I think the crash will be less about consoles and more about studios and the IPs. There's no way the industry can keep up with this bullshit of releasing endless billion-dollar, triple A titles that can no longer make up their cost. The last Call of Duty game actually lost money in the long run despite selling like a gazillion copies worldwide. It just won't last.
It's too bad, because I think it will end up hurting every and not just the big, bloated studio structure. It's also too bad because indie games will probably become bigger because of it which sucks because so many indie games are pretentious "retro" garbage.

I have talked to people who think this idea is brilliant. They are convinced that it will sell to older people who don't play video games but need a machine to quote tie the living room together end quote. Which is to say, your parents will pay 0 for a voice-activated remote control that can show FOOTBALL or PIZZA.
I have also talked to people who believe Muammar Qaddafi was too beloved to be overthrown in a popular revolt.
|
Adham Nu'man - 2013-05-26 I think the idea is brilliant and will probably sell well.
I don't like the fact that it's not backward's compatible and the used gaming ban but I think they are both calculated risks that Microsoft is taking because they are confident in their product.
There was a perplexing lack of games displayed at this console unveiling event but the same can be said of the PS4 unveiling event.

There was exactly one time when I played a game and had something playing on TV picture in picture too and that is when I was grinding through the endurance races in Gran Turismo 3, there was 10 of them and they took up to 3 hours each and they were boring as fuck. I lost all will to ever play racing games again at 93% completion of the whole game, when I realized I picked the wrong F1 car and would have to start the last circuit over again. So. I don't see that situation coming up again, really.
