I hope there's some amazing story about how (and why) something like this game was released. Maybe every year some gaming charity can challenge hot-shot programmers to fix/mod the game into some new and stable form for the amusement of all.
Left broken, it could be the next Desert Bus challenge.

StanleyPain - 2013-07-29 Originally, the game was being made by Deep Silver (Dead Island) and was supposed to be a large, open world kind of thing. After a few years of development, they basically cancelled it, knowing it would take too much effort to finish, then they farmed it out to another developer to "finish" it for release at a later time.
How the fuck it actually got published the way it is (basically unfinished) I don't think has yet been fully revealed, but I'm going to safely guess it was one of those contract things where, at this point, the game was never going to be properly finished and they figured releasing a piece of shit might at least re-coup SOME money rather than just cancelling it again. Who knows.
I disagree with the "buy it because it's so terrible" sentiment here, though. Trust me. It's a hilarious game for about an hour, but after that, even for it's not worth it.

RocketBlender - 2013-07-29 I bought daikatana for a couple bucks ages back, just to see it for myself.
Truth be told, that whole "awesome because of how bad it is" feel just doesn't work for games like it does movies.

...Well, shit. Now I actually wanna play it.

American Standard - 2013-07-29 I'm one of three fans of "The Guild II." I stopped playing when my burgeoning criminal empire was fatally hobbled by AI so appallingly awful that my hirelings would literally run ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE FUCKING MAP to attack merchant caravans in the heart of busy, heavily-guarded cities instead of raiding the shipments on the quiet dirt roads outside their smuggler's den. Nothing could stop them. Every single one died minutes after being recruited.
Trust me when I say orphaned games are never fixed. Neverrrrrrr.

Watching someone take shots at the most slowly moving target they can find shouldn't be this funny.

SolRo - 2013-07-29
-1 for not being that funny
-1 for thinking buying shit games would confuse marketing drones instead of just convince them they can put out a shit game and someone will still buy it "ironically".

I've taken so many knife fighting lessons but I always crumble at the pressure when it's time for my actual test

It's funny that his description of the music is just as accurate as a description of his awful theme music.
|
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-07-30 To be fair, he used to just put up appropriate songs, but I'm guessing the Escapist got tired of angry letters from the RIAA.
I would never have heard The Kinks' "Village Green Appreciation Society" were it not for Yahtzee.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-07-30 Yeah I was never a big fan of his theme music. It reminded me too much of the CAD animated series theme.
