It was one of the handful of skits that was removed from the US broadcasts, so that might be why maybe if you watched it in the US. I personally never saw it either till it wound up here on POETV and then when I got the DVD sets I was pleased they were the "uncut" episodes.

If this was SNL, this sketch would be 14 minutes longer and half as funny.

At some point the kid would respond to something that his dad said by saying "What does that even MEAN?" so that the audience can tell that it's an unusual thing to say.
