Last console I got near launch was an Atari 7800. Lesson learned.

Slow clap.

"Or apple products..."

The cherry on top.

Hooker - 2013-08-12

This is to say nothing about the hardware problems, although, those don't seem to ever get fixed now regardless.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-08-12

What's a console? OH MAN I'M SO COOL BECAUSE I DON'T CARE OH MAN

MrBuddy - 2013-08-13

Not everyone can be part of the glorious PC gaming master race.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2014-08-12

What I dont get is how console people often use that term "pc master race" and then they *dont* want to be part of that master race?? why not? the master race is obviously superior! You should stop being bitter thralls (of sony, nintendo or MS) and join up!

memedumpster - 2013-08-12

That was pretty great.

StanleyPain - 2013-08-12

I would play Call of Duty: Ghost Dad.

Kid Fenris - 2013-08-12

The Dreamcast was the last console worth buying at launch, and that was because it came to America almost a year after it hit Japan.

RocketBlender - 2013-08-13

I actually don't know the answer to this; did the SNES and N64 launch in the US at the same time as the rest of the world? I remember having plenty of great choices by the time I got my SNES, thought honestly I have no idea how close to it's launch I actually got one. I just remember always having plenty of options at the local blockbuster, even when I first got it.

I don't remember much about the N64's launch, that was about 4th grade for me, I think. I know Mario 64 kept me busy for ages.

Xenocide - 2013-08-13

The SNES launched in Japan almost a year before the US got it. But the N64 Japanese launch was less than two months ahead of the US release.

The N64 only had like four titles at launch. You just didn't notice because one of those titles just happened to be one of the most acclaimed games ever made.

Xenocide - 2013-08-13

Fine, kid, don't buy the Wii U at launch! But you'll miss out on great titles like "Wii U Firmware Update," and "Old Wii Games You Happen to Have Lying Around."

And if you don't buy an Xbox One at launch, you'll miss out on the latest Call of Duty. They just leaked the box art, too.

is that dog simulator 2000 or dog simulator zoo

one of them sounds rad and I think you know which one

chumbucket - 2013-08-13

My last console was given to me at launch because I worked on it. The next one, will not be given and I do not at all plan on paying for one at launch. Amen to this.

Stars for "or Apple products".

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-08-13

As much as I've wanted to with some past consoles, I've never got a console at launch, and have no plans to this time around. Hell, there's more games coming out for the current consoles in the foreseeable future than there are on the new consoles, and most of the games announced for the next gen consoles so far are coming out on the current consoles too.

That being said, if no one buys new consoles at launch, won't they fail? Look what happened to past consoles that no one bought at launch (such as the VirtualBoy, which ceased production less than a year out because it wasn't sellling). They fail before they even have the chance to prove themselves.

I guess it's another one of those things like piracy. People will say "WELL DUH I PIRATE BECAUSE I'M NOT AN IDIOT WHO PAYS FOR WHAT I CAN GET FOR FREE!" without thinking about the fact that if everyone follows such a principal, the games won't exist in the first place.

Monkey Napoleon - 2013-08-18

Fear is a stupid motivation for supporting shitty products. If no one buys the consoles at launch, they'll fail... and then developers will put out games for PC and current gen consoles.

Good games that are released in an intelligent manner sell enough copies that piracy, consoles not embraced by the public, and the fucking apocalypse combined won't even make a dent in their sales figures.

nerds

Xenagama Warrior Princess - 2013-08-14

Never ever bought my consoles at launch. Games, however are a different matter.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-08-19

Never preorder anything, either.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2013-12-17

I bought the Wii and PS3 at launch. Camped out overnight at Best Buy. Four months earlier my dad had died and I had infinite money, so I convinced some friends to join me, more to say we did than anything else.

About an hour in, I got bored, so I asked if they'd hold my place in line while I went to the gym next door. I worked out, then alternated between the sauna and the jacuzzi for about four hours. Then I went home because fuck it. I came back around dawn, bought my consoles, and played the fuck out of Resistance and Wii Sports.

Always buy a console at launch. It is identical to a trip to Sweden.
