If I were alone in a room with Osama Bin Laden and a baseball bat and I only had 30 minutes to prevent 9/11 I would be questioning the series of circumstances that lead up to that moment. It's all well and good to imagine what you'd do in a situation that's so controlled. This guy is so convinced that torturing someone is the most expeditious and effective way of retrieving information from someone that he's willing to create a literal hell on earth.

They can't say it, but most of the justification for torture the right wing uses is pretty much the hypothetical scenario from "24".

First of all, great usage of the binary answer where one choice is exactly what I want and the other is insultingly benign, but if it's BEFORE the bombings, the Tsaranevs weren't wanted criminals, so you'd just be hitting strangers with a baseball bat in hopes that one would tell you something useful. Of course torturing them now would be pointless, as they've already tried their hardest to hurt people. If they had more bombs, they would have used them.
