Jet Bin Fever - 2013-08-20 Funny, I just watched this documentary about how noise pollution really affects the lives of whaling. Low frequency sound waves made by ship engines mess with whales' communication, which is incredibly complicated.
So yeah, noise pollution and whaling go together, strangely!

There's nothing mentally ill about getting pissed off by neighbour's kids even in ways those kids can't help. I lived next to a family that had an autistic kid for a while and I can tell you that having him jumping on a trampoline and shrieking over the fence for 3-4 hours a day did piss me the hell off. I'd often end up going out to work in the library or cafe to get away from it. This difference was that I didn't send them a shitty letter.

A theory gaining steam is that the mother of the autistic kid is actually the author of that letter. Apparently she's been to a lot of city council meetings and the like, endlessly and obsessively complaining about her "second-level progressive MS" and wants some kind of compensation for her situation. According to sources she is a fairly eccentric person, and the media smells it too and that's why they're covering this with such intensity. I'd hate for that to be true, then again this type of "hoax" isn't unheard of (remember that girl who was "mugged" by the pro-Obama voters?).
I bring it up because it's interesting, and also because my skeptic-o-meter started making beeping noises when I read this story the first time. Hope it's just low on batteries.
