KISS doesn't come clean with the reason they showed up until about halfway through the video, but boy is it a good one.
I don't know what's worse, the fact that the band couldn't be bothered to think of a more tactful way to fuck over their fans, or the fact that the fans didn't even blink, they just kept right on cheering and calling out the band's names like four year old kids trying to get mom's attention.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-16 Relevant bits start at 11:40. The convention organizers had a bunch of KISS memorabilia on display, mothballed costumes and things that they had bought at an auction. KISS wanted the memorabilia back. So they showed up and just took it all.
There's also a whole bunch of shilling.
