I'll bet you were one of the people whining about how people playing "Guitar Hero" should be learning real guitar instead.

Some people learn an instrument just so they can casually strum a couple tunes now and then. Not everyone sets out to turn it into a career.

I recognize that I'll never be a good enough musician to play in public. Something like this would be perfect for when I just something good to come out of me banging the keys alone in my apartment.

I'm perfectly happy with just being a fleshy player piano. To me, anything that cuts out instructors lecturing me on technique is a good thing.

I've seen digital pianos like this before, albeit not nearly as fancy and sci-fi looking. I agree that something like this probably won't be churning out baby Rachmaninoffs, but come on OZ, it's still a neat learning tool, especially if you're self-taught, lazy, or have an average piano teacher. It saves you the hassle of learning to read music, and with color-coded fingering ques, it could actually help correct "mistakes" in your technique, albeit at a fairly rudimentary level.


If getting MIDI data for 0 is what you're after. why not get a DAW? I use Reason, and it does that, amongst many other things. Hell, you don't even have to pay 0, just pirate that shit and you're golden; real-time visual note recording for the price of nothing!

Proper technique is in no way designed to prevent injury or to make learning easier. Depending on the instrument, it's always about speed, accuracy, and endurance.

I think you're a little confused about what this is for. This is for that person who would like to learn a little piano as an entertaining hobby, not someone who is trying to train up as a musician.

I studied music in school for seven years with some excellent teachers, so I'm familiar enough with musical theory to see how this can even be helpful if implemented correctly. I bought a used copy of Rocksmith (I don't play guitar) out of curiosity. It would be best described as "Guitar Hero on a real guitar you're actually playing". There is a kind of sliding difficulty level based on your accuracy, and it *really* blew me away how it's teaching fundamentals in a way where rote memorization and tedious explanations are *completely* unnecessary.
