they picked the best design possible

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-01-07

It really does look completely badass. The adoring children adds balance.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-01-07

I'm kind of amazed the Ten Commandments statue got an all-seeing eye on there without causing a shitstorm of "Illuminati!" and "NWO!" people demanding its removal.

Gmork - 2014-01-07

It's Oklahoma.

Scrimmjob - 2014-01-07

Could this use an 'Erection' tag?

Old_Zircon - 2014-01-07

Definitely needs a "troll" tag. For all their flaws, Satanists know trolling.

(unlike that fucking Spaghetti Monster crap)

EvilHomer - 2014-01-07

I'm so sick of the FSM.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2014-01-07

EvilHomer's comment needs to be a Clash cover song.

Pastafarians

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-01-07

Pretty hilarious stuff. While I'm all for making religious nuts go ballistic, I think a much better approach would be some sort of rationality monument rather than just an inflammatory jab with a baphomet.

Anaxagoras - 2014-01-07

"Better" in what sense? Trying to get a Satanist statue erected does a great job of highlighting the absurdity of allowing a religion (any religion) onto public lands.

If you erected a rationality monument, then you fall into the trap of arguing the merits of this or that statue. The Satanist statue bypasses that entire discussion.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-01-07

Maybe they just need to plant a nice tree on the spot and call it a day.

Gmork - 2014-01-07

As long as the tree grows through the chest of a newborn baby. Some sort of IV needs to be set up first.

Crab Mentality - 2014-01-07

For those who wish to donate -

It's already fully funded, and it's very unlikely to ever actually happen. Even if somehow after years of legal battles they actually put it up, it's Oklahoma. Someone's just going to ram into it with their pickup truck.

Malphas' mission statement states that they exist "To organize, form, and establish an interfaith church founded on divine principles based on faith, reason and conscience with the goal of improving spiritual health and welfare of humanity; to embody and promote these principles to help co-create harmony of the mind, body, and spirit elements in accordance with divine law."

Malphas is a trademarked, spiritual Church as well. While the argument will always be that Satan was the one who was cast out of heaven and is therefore evil, or the cause of evil, I've always felt that the same could be said for Jesus, who was cast out of, well, the mortal realm, simply to rid us of Satan's lure. Santa on the other hand, while technically a Saint, is mainly regarded as a Secular icon at this point. I see no reason why a Spiritual icon such as Satan should be frowned upon when Nativity scenes are acceptable.

While I predict that there will be more 30-40-somethings with Slayer t-shirts sitting on Satan's laps than there will be children, should this pass, I do think it's a step in the right direction towards universal religious acceptance, and not as a joking middle finger like the Festivus Pole or Spaghetti Monster were.

5 ghost stars for the majority of christians being ignorant that the star of bethlehem was a ploy by Satan to rat out the location of Jesus to Herod. Or that the wise men were the agents of Herod's babykilling mission.

memedumpster - 2014-01-07

I like the symbolism of the Illuminati eye making the eagle tear down and claw up the American flag on that gravestone to freedom the Christians threw up.

Baphomet seems to lack violence and death imagery.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-01-07

1. 100% for this. Amen, preach it.

2. Baphomet as we see it is Eliphas Levi's visual representation of the Cosmic Androgyne, and hence a rejection not of God but of the concept of a patriarchal, male God. It's absolutely not Satan. IN FACT, "Baphomet", originally, was a garbled, Chinese telephone game version of "Muhammed", and worshipping this not existent idol was an accusation levied onto the Knights Templar, who most certainly were not Satanists.

CuteLucca - 2014-01-07

I donated. Hail Satan!
