Old_Zircon - 2014-01-13 Also I used to be friends with a guy who spent 5 years in a small town in Siberia when he was doing his graduate work, and even though he was a light drinker he was up to a bottle of vodka a day by the end of it. He claims that he had to start drinking at breakfast every day and continue through the day, otherwise by the time he was done working everyone else would be so much drunker than him that he literally couldn't interact with them in any meaningful way. It was stay drunk 24/7 or spend 5 years in almost complete social isolation.
I went to one or two parties that his Russian friends in the US threw.
As far as I can tell, the Russia we see via Youtube is pretty much how it is.
