He's not actually an abusive asshole. He's like this because, as the documentary reveals, he's always on, always looking for attention. Even with staffers not thinking about cameras, he wants the attention and laughs. Of course the reason he's playing up the 'egocentric' boss bit is because the funniest comedy is often self-deprecating and grained in honesty.

This probably would make him insufferable to work with, but there's a difference between that and being an actual abusive asshole. His staff seem more wearily resigned to putting up with his childishness that actually scared. Plus, he's like this with Sona more than others because they're close and she actually tells him off when she needs to.
