and one of many that were "removed by the user (Illuminati)". The whole 5th ring thing was kind of weird though. US television captured it but they had all 5 in an edited version for Russian audiences.

or maybe it was the other way around. For those like me who aren't watching the games mostly in protest of, well, everything going on in Sochi, one of the 5 olympic rings didn't transform from a snowflake into an Olympic ring like it was supposed to, so from left-to-right you just had the four. Easy error, and easy to correct in post, but there is something a little creepy about the Russian simulcast's five rings.. even if it was being delayed by just a few seconds. Maybe (probably) the delay was longer than that, but still..

I think the Russians switched to footage from an earlier rehearsal. I read that you could tell the difference mainly due to the vacant seats in the stands that suddenly appeared when the rings "worked."

*so instead of watching the olympics, I'm commenting on a video that doesn't exist* It's lonely here, but I like the isolation. To quote Walden, "I am no more lonely than a single mullein or dandelion in a pasture, or a bean leaf, or sorrel, or a horsefly, or a bumblebee." buzz buzz

Oh yeah, that makes sense that they'd film the rehearsal. I guess I'll always wonder what this guy's "Illuminati" connection was. I turned out watching it on my parents' DVR the other day, and it's actually really beautiful (especially on their HDTV), but most of it's the girl travelling through Russian history. So yeah. It hits a little on.. I dunno.. Communism and stuff? But I didn't see anything that wasn't just like "This is Russia. This is our history, performed in interpretative dance numbers on LSD"

Someone could just plug in the title to YouTube and get a whole smorgasbord of other whacko videos to replace this one's dead link. Either subby or another brave soul could take the bullet and wade through them to select a gem, but I'm crazied out for the day.

Surprisingly, there aren't all that many other decent symbol-analyzing videos about the opening ceremonies besides just the ring failing to open.

I dunno why people continued voting this up after the guy pulled the video.

sasazuka - 2014-02-13

Yeah, sorry about the guy pulling the video. I don't remember everything about it, but one of the big points was that he thinks the ring that failed to open at the opening ceremonies is the red one, representing America, and it's symbolic of Putin planning to invade the United States or something.

I'll replace the link with a Veeken video.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-02-13

That's odd, since an old Time Magazine had the same ring "broken" on their cover to symbolize the Russian boycott at the time.

That darn Illuminati. They can't get their symbology straight. No wonder nobody takes them seriously anymore.
