I'm tired of the whole 'MERICA! meme. Its a very strange trend that started out as parody of blind stupid patriotism, that has morphed into a sincere expression of blind stupid patriotism.
Our culture has become so cynical and parody-ridden that the only sincerity left open to us is bad jokes we've forgotten are jokes.
That said, following 9/11, people were U-S-A chanting unironically for days, possibly even weeks, before it became part of the 'MERICA meme. What we're seeing here is a ritual that has come full circle, from sincere to ironic to sincere again, albeit an abortive sincerity that does little except highlight the pervasive cynicism of urban life.
