I've always wondered, what is being "white" exactly?
It can't simply be explained by being caucasian cause that would include north africa and shit.
It can't be simply answering white on a census form since you can be white and hispanic on paper and in real life.
So, what is it then? Is your ethnic background taken into account like in Nazi-Germany? Do they still do that whole one-drop bullshit? Are greeks "white"? Is it just an arbitrary term devoid of any connection to the real world that is twisted on a whim?

I guess you haven't been following 90210 week.

Luke Perry's dad faking his death broke my mind.

I've somehow never taken a census test (I move around and it seems like it's always around the time I move that they conduct them) but I'm pretty sure it breaks it down more than just black or white, hispanic asian or other, so they can pinpoint the ethnic makeup of the community as well.

Like I can wikipedia it and know that there are more Irish Caucasians in Boston than there are in Portland, etc. Maybe I'm wrong and they figure those statistics out some other way.. I think it's good that application forms for jobs break it down into the "big 4" (or you can choose not to answer) because if I was applying at an Italian deli and marked "White (Scandinavian)" and someone else marked "White (Italian)" and we had equal skills, there could be a bias in the hiring process, the same was as (and I hate to say it) marking "hispanic (mexican)" on a lower paying position may have precedence over "hispanic (spanish.)"

Of course, the whole thing's fucked up.

Yeah dude, that's what I'm saying, sorry if that didn't come across. Last immigration/government related race questionnaire I took (late 2013) had a shit ton of race groups (including white) you could select, then a couple of yes/no type questions along the lines of "are you hispanic/latino?" or whatever.

Anyway my point, is checking the white race box enough justification to declare yourself "white" regardless of it you then state you are hispanic after? In the eyes of the government your are white, but what about in the eyes of a racist yahoo?

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-03-19

The only people who truly identify themselves as whites are racists and comedians making fun of themselves.

This question has actually been on my mind as well. I've been grown to see myself as latino, however I am regularly perceived as white by many here in Asia. I decided to finally do some research and see that census takers, in the US at least, have done some voodoo on the definition of what the whole thing means for various agendas and interests. One case that really sticks out in my mind is how post-Jim Crow Houston quietly reclassified Mexicans as "white" to have them go the typically "black" schools while more typical Caucasians went to their own schools.

From my lurking on Stormfront and other such forums, the overall consensus seems to be that if you are of a European background then that's Good Enough. Slavic people's are also generally considered as In provided they support the cause of Nationalism as a whole. South/East Asia, India, and Latin-America, due to being inherently non-Caucasoid and/or mixed blood societies, are considered Out, although many neo-nazis consider India a cultural mode to emulate with its caste system and may even admire it due to to the bat-shit insane Savtri Devi. (Seriously, if you have some time, look her up.. all of the Nazi mysticism stuff that pops up in movies can be directly traced back to her)

TL;DR: Latinos are not white enough for crazies but, due to indeed being largely Caucasoid, are white enough for census forms which can then be opportunistically manipulated.

To see a look at how some white nationalists see the world, this list of recommended movies and this one guy's analysis of it is POE-Red levels of trainwreck fascinating.

Irish people aren't white you fools.

oddeye - 2014-03-19

I'd have thought the Irish, being of Celtic origin or whatever, would have been a definite white. Also thank you very much UCF, you the (white) man.

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-19

I was going to keep the joke going but then I found an actually interesting and relevant little article about the Irish's transition from not white to white:

Old_Zircon - 2014-03-19

I've actually seen some of the documents he's taking about (believe it or not, when I worked at a thrift store around 2006 the couple who sorted books threw a box of 19th century pamphlets about Irish community and rights into the dumpster because "they're old" - fortunately one of my friends rescued them and gave them to a historian at either Harvard or Tufts, who was pretty happy).

Not really going anywhere with that, just had to vent because it still horrifies me thinking about how much stuff like that was thrown out every week by those two that we COULDN'T rescue.

Grandmaster Funk - 2014-03-19

Welcome to the nonsensical world of race politics. Of course none of it makes any sense. They're imaginary categories based on xenophobia and tribalism.

To me, "Hispanic (Spanish)" will always be the weirdest one of all. By any reasonable objective measure, this should just be "White." However, since the Spanish brutally colonized so much of the Americas and left behind massive populations of Spanish-speaking mestizos, we associate the Spanish language with Latin America and people of color, and some of that association spills over on anyone who speaks Spanish ancestrally.

Consequently, the white people from Spain (as well as the ultra-racist Latin American white elite who have worked to preserve their Spanish bloodlines free from contamination from Indians over generations) get to pretend to be noble "people of color" within the racial politics of the United States because of the murderous imperialist adventures of their ancestors, and because Americans at large just don't know any better.

Sanest Man Alive - 2014-03-19

Well, the man certainly sounds like a khunt.

Also, may wanna find a new video link; that site currently just links to a TYT playlist that doesn't include anything about this particular human zoo.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-03-20

This shit makes no sense. I heard about it from a friend, and we laughed about it for a while then felt bad afterwards. This level of racism is almost impressive in its stupidity.
