A 3.75s 100m is 60 mph.

Glad to see that Ulillillia game is nearing completion.

Ullympics. I used play Track and Field for the Nes and just jump off the pad during long jump, getting something like 100 feet.

The Power Pad was actually the reason my parents finally gave in and bought us a Nintendo, because we'd get more exercise in the winter, and that was what we did - cheat in every way possible. Then I got signed up for swimming :)

err.. World Class Track Meet, not Track and Field. Also "used to" for all you teachers out there.

In the original Hyper Olympics, when you went full speed and threw at the full angle in the javelin throw event, you hit a bird, a star or something, and get a 1000 point bonus.

There's a bonus thingie like that in almost all the events.

Next you're going to tell me that ShotPutTron 2000 wasn't just a modified howitzer.

I appreciate how the developers took the time to model the cityscape even though there should have been absolutely no reason to show anything outside the stadium.

Dude threw a hammer for over a mile.

The 100 metre running event reminds me of the first episode of KIMAGURE ORANGE ROAD, when it's revealed why the Kasuga family had to leave the previous city: Kurumi used her esper powers to run as fast as a motorcycle at a school athletic event.

Of course, KOR took place in an alternate reality version of Japan where people displaying superhuman abilities only cause embarrassment to the family and isn't something that the powers that be want to research and harness (like in the INDEX/RAILGUN franchise).

oddeye - 2014-04-13

Why would it cause embarrassment and why would anyone with super powers care?

sasazuka - 2014-04-13

Oh, I'm a big fan of KIMAGURE ORANGE ROAD but I fully admit the whole "the kids have to hide their powers so as to not stand out too much" aspect of the premise never quite sat well with me.

There are plenty of valid reasons why a hypothetical esper would not want to expose his or her abilities (i.e. not wanting to be research subjects locked up in a laboratory for the rest of their lives), but "causing embarrassment" would be pretty low on the list of concerns.

Must be pretty mild superpowers if some eggheads are able to catch and study you, yo.

Either that or they got superpowered men in black, super-robots or something, in which case why even care if some boy can run as fast as a Yamaha?

Not criticizing or anything, genuinely curious.

The amazing part is the programmed in vocalization to speak the thousands number, even though under regular game play it would NEVER be used.

Which suggests they knew about whatever glitch or rapid fire input he's using and decided it was more worth their time to record someone saying "Thousand" rather then actually fixing it.
