I rated this one-star because it's not really evil. I've known a few people that were seen by others at "fat" but they were totally healthy, they just carried their weight differently. It varies by person and I don't think its a bad idea to make a documentary showing that.

Body ideals are not fucked, and obesity is a serious health issue, particularly in the West. While I do think your body is your business, that no-one should not be *hated* for being physically repulsive, and that one has every right to be unhealthy and gross, I also fail to see what's wrong with pop culture discouraging you from being a fatty.

Yes, yes, beauty ideals are a cultural construct that changes over time, and sure sure, not all body images presented by pop culture are reasonable (which is sort of the point: pop culture is all about fantasy, escapism and aspiration). But these ladies are CLEARLY too fat for their own good, and if TV wants to tell them how it is, that's their problem, not TVs'.

See the problem lies in the attitude.

Encouraging a healthy lifestyle is good. Educate people about a good diet and getting exercise. These things are helpful.

When you say "discourage people from being a fatty", it betrays a certain level of prejudice, disgust and blame.

No, the problem lies in the FATTITUDE!

What's actually fucked is the emergence of "cultural critics" who actually have no idea how to analyze media yet plan on making a profit off of their *insights*. Doubly so when they intend to lecture the public about health while not being any kind of certified medical professional. Capitalism has failed us, yada yada, bring back labor camps...

The food thing is intense, man!

I see a lot of these "fat acceptance" types spouting nonsense and excuses about how eating healthier and dieting is actually VERY EXPENSIVE and TAKES TOO MUCH TIME

Prior to the industrial revolution it was almost impossible to be fat unless you were very rich. And even the fat people of back in the day where nowhere near the shape of some of the hambeasts you see around these days.

We've only had the luxury of working and earning a living by sitting on our asses all day for a very short time in history, and our bodies are not designed to withstand being so fat.

The "natural" shape of your body would be one tempered by physical labor. The problem is you don't get physical labor because our society has evolved to such a complex societal system where slave workers in the third world mine the gold required to power the microchips that allow you to earn a living by being the editor of HOT AND HEAVY magazine while you sit on your ass all day gobbling down cheesecake nonstop.

I think we'll need to wait and see what John Holmes thinks of this. He's like a groundhog for that sort of stuff!
