Body acceptance: being a compilation of heart diseases, diabetus and be proud of it.

Xenocide - 2014-04-13

Anyone who has ever had to sit through a Shrek movie has been victimized by Shrek.

mustard - 2014-04-14

One of the participants is named Lisa Bacon, another Deb Burgard.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-04-14

One of them is named Substantia Jones, which is literally the name a funny fat person would have in a comedy.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-04-14

If you pledge enough you can get a photo shoot with a bikini clad Substantia!

mustard - 2014-04-14

A substantial amount of stars for Substantia

Potrod - 2014-04-14

Her name is Substantia.... Substantia Buttocks.

*burst of laughter*

Spaceman Africa - 2014-04-14

hmmm

poopy - 2014-04-14

and here I thought you were one of those fit blacks

misterbuns - 2014-04-14

Totally agree, Spaceman. We must provides spaces to problematize these body narratives.

misterbuns - 2014-04-14

JK!!!

Obesity is a problem that is bigger than these people's feelings.

Also this doc is promoting dangerous antiscience.

gross gross gross.

five stars.

Spaceman Africa - 2014-04-14

I rated this one-star because it's not really evil. I've known a few people that were seen by others at "fat" but they were totally healthy, they just carried their weight differently. It varies by person and I don't think its a bad idea to make a documentary showing that.

bongoprophet - 2014-04-14

it's a legit point and body ideals are fucked. not evil.

EvilHomer - 2014-04-14

Body ideals are not fucked, and obesity is a serious health issue, particularly in the West. While I do think your body is your business, that no-one should not be *hated* for being physically repulsive, and that one has every right to be unhealthy and gross, I also fail to see what's wrong with pop culture discouraging you from being a fatty.

Yes, yes, beauty ideals are a cultural construct that changes over time, and sure sure, not all body images presented by pop culture are reasonable (which is sort of the point: pop culture is all about fantasy, escapism and aspiration). But these ladies are CLEARLY too fat for their own good, and if TV wants to tell them how it is, that's their problem, not TVs'.

Binro the Heretic - 2014-04-14

See the problem lies in the attitude.

Encouraging a healthy lifestyle is good. Educate people about a good diet and getting exercise. These things are helpful.

When you say "discourage people from being a fatty", it betrays a certain level of prejudice, disgust and blame.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-04-14

No, the problem lies in the FATTITUDE!

Pope Caius - 2014-04-14

What's actually fucked is the emergence of "cultural critics" who actually have no idea how to analyze media yet plan on making a profit off of their *insights*. Doubly so when they intend to lecture the public about health while not being any kind of certified medical professional. Capitalism has failed us, yada yada, bring back labor camps...

There is plenty of value in some of what you want to communicate to people. I don't feel that I hate anybody and there are definitely unrealistic standards set in media for both men and women. The thing is, and here's the thing: that little preview video on the main page just shows that you are only interested in furthering women's interests. There was not a single man in that video and that's because you expect men to "man up" and work hard for women, but your opinion is that women should be accepted for the way they are, regardless. There are just as many fat men as women out there and the reason you don't get a fat acceptance movement out of them is because they get all the same messages from society that women do, but I know that you don't care about them and you hold men to a higher standard than you. Change your video to include some men and maybe I might think you're sincere.

EvilHomer - 2014-04-14

(Zyvzz is a famous dead bodybuilder, so the comment is most likely a troll, but the Kickstarter ladies took it seriously and agreed to better represent Men's Rights, which was very nice of them.)

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-04-14

If we're no longer allowed to laugh at fat guys, then Kevin James' career will be destroyed, and I just can't see him making a living any other way.

Nikon - 2014-04-14

I'll give that comment some stars.

misterbuns - 2014-04-14

Hopefully he'll do porn.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-04-14

THE TV SHOWS ME ALL THIS FOOD HOW CAN I NOT BE FAT LOOK AT THAT GUY COOKING I AM HUNGRY ALREADY!

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-04-14

The food thing is intense, man!

BHWW - 2014-04-14

I see a lot of these "fat acceptance" types spouting nonsense and excuses about how eating healthier and dieting is actually VERY EXPENSIVE and TAKES TOO MUCH TIME

"First you say, okay, I'll give up fast food and cook myself. After going down to Half-Price Books for a diet plan book, a cookbook or two and maybe a food log, you prepare for the week for food. By the time you buy all the oils and spices and cooking gear, you've spent 0 for a week's worth of meals. You then spend hours a week cutting and preparing (and wasting a LOT of food - for example, buying a whole container of cottage cheese when one meal on the diet requires 1/2 cup for the whole week)."

"thin privilege"

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-04-14

Obesity is a disease. Most of these people just seem overweight, but fat is never ever better than skinny, health wise. Even if there aren't cardiac effects there are problems with joints, arthritis, edema, etc in heavy people later in life. It puts a strain on your whole body.

Adham Nu'man - 2014-04-14

Prior to the industrial revolution it was almost impossible to be fat unless you were very rich. And even the fat people of back in the day where nowhere near the shape of some of the hambeasts you see around these days.

We've only had the luxury of working and earning a living by sitting on our asses all day for a very short time in history, and our bodies are not designed to withstand being so fat.

The "natural" shape of your body would be one tempered by physical labor. The problem is you don't get physical labor because our society has evolved to such a complex societal system where slave workers in the third world mine the gold required to power the microchips that allow you to earn a living by being the editor of HOT AND HEAVY magazine while you sit on your ass all day gobbling down cheesecake nonstop.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-04-14

Is this going to be another vanity project that doesn't accomplish anything but gets loads of funding from people who just want to spite their perceived foes?

EvilHomer - 2014-04-14

I think we'll need to wait and see what John Holmes thinks of this. He's like a groundhog for that sort of stuff!

Adham Nu'man - 2014-04-14

We should pool our money to pledge enough to get them to shoehorn Boxxy in this thing somewhere.

Oscar Wildcat - 2014-04-14

I've come to appreciate that a whole industy based on that premise seems to be evolving on the net. Remarkable.

Riskbreaker - 2014-04-14

This way we know who are the hateful nerds here, so i don't have to sit with them when dad picks us all for school!

misterbuns - 2014-04-14

These people feel about food how religions feel about sex.

Obsessive and warped, they should get help.

Pillager - 2014-04-14

How lazy.

They don't even have special titles for "Pledge $X amount of dollars or more"

250$ should be Chubby Chaser.

500$: Harpooner.

750$: Hogger.

1000$: Wing Man Eternal.

10,000$: Master of Feeders.
