This is fucking sad, there are many ways one can go away from this world, but to go out like this, well. I wonder how are the rates of mobile phones car accidents compared to drunk driving accidents. It's safe to say the first group is rising more and more with each year.
|
SolRo - 2014-04-27 What's sad about it? Darwin Award winner got it without taking out someone else in to process, as often happens.
|
|
il fiore bel - 2014-04-27 I don't know about rates, but if you look up the most common causes of car accidents, distracted driving (including cell phone use) always places before drunk driving. Usually it's the number one spot.
Her cutting her own life short is what's sad. 32 is relatively young, and it's hard to say what kind of life and what kind of people she left behind. Other than being a dangerous idiot on the road, she was probably a lovely person with some good qualities. But yes, thankfully the other driver was not hurt.
|
Oscar Wildcat - 2014-04-27 I get you, Bel. Just having difficulty getting past the "sociopathic disregard for other drivers" quality that caused the accident.
|
Potrod - 2014-04-27 Not sure why you'd assume sociopathic rather than just stupid.
If we stop pretending, for a second, to be cynical dicks, then yes, it is sad.
|
SolRo - 2014-04-28 It could always be that middle where the ven diagram of stupid and sociopathic overlap
|
Oscar Wildcat - 2014-04-28 Mistakes were made. Who could have known?
|
Oscar Wildcat - 2014-04-28 Also, I see myself as more of a pha-realist than a dick cynic.

Facebook is a pacifier for emotionally needy people and attention whores. 20 years ago if you heard 4 Non Blondes on the radio and wanted to let all your friends know that you too pray every single day for a revolution, you had to wait until you actually saw them in person. You would also survive your commute.

|
Raggamuffin - 2014-04-27 Guys come on, 20 years ago it was 1994. You could call people on the phone then. They were unwieldy but you could even get a cell phone at the time.

Every day on my way to work I see somebody cross a busy street against the light, often while texting, and about 10 people will blindly follow because they aren't looking either. It can't be too long before I see a bus wipe out a flock of bankers.

don't jinx it!

sosage - 2014-04-27 I was riding in a car that was parallel to some asshole in a ridiculous looking raised truck, texting. I couldn't believe my eyes, because the guy was obviously not looking at the road and we were doing 40mph. I mean he was holding the phone up to the steering wheel, with his wrists holding the wheel, while he was casually hunched over relaxed with his face buried into the screen, fingers flailing around typing out something funny (he was smiling). Before I could reach over and honk the driver's horn, we were slowing for a stoplight and KABOOM! The only thing that stopped him from flying into the intersection and killing someone was a compact car trying to make a right.
I mean, I heard that people do this, but when I actually saw the extent this guy was not paying attention...it makes me sick with rage. Completely oblivious to the world immediately around him in his entitled, self centered little universe. I get the impression he knew what he was doing was stupid and dangerous, but fuck the consequences, right? I mean, he's in a gigantic fucking truck. I wish I would have been allowed to force feed him his phone.

At least this woman killed herself, and not a teacher at her school, like this fucker did:
http://www.kgw.com/news/Hit-and-run-driver-who-killed-Vancouve r-teacher-makes-guilty-plea-deal-82410657.html
this one hits home, cause I went to that high school and rode my bike all over the Couve when I lived there.

her problem is that she had to individually cap every one of those letters in "HAPPY". Had she just mashed happr and let autocorrect take over, she would be alive today.
Just playing, but this is really terrible. If people feel compelled to post something that second, they need to pull the car over and take 20 seconds, then pull back into traffic safely and carry on.

It's only a matter of time before we have cars that drive themselves anyway. The accident rate will probably go down then.
