Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford debate their contract with JJ Abrams : the Metaphor the Ride.

I thought maybe this would be a sketch ripping off Chris Rock in I'm Gonna Get You Sucka but instead it was someone doing a lot of stop-motion animation for a script to which nobody remembered to add any jokes.

So basically a regular episode of Portlandia, but with animation.

StanleyPain - 2014-05-27

I was unaware we were in that phase now where you have to hate Portlandia to be internet cool. Learn something every day.

ashtar. - 2014-05-27

I like Portlandia ironically.

(Am I cool now?)

cognitivedissonance - 2014-05-27

I like Portlandia, but I've spent my entire life within 70 miles of the city so it's like a shinier, hipper Almost Live.

infinite zest - 2014-05-27

It's been a while since I've seen more than just clips of Almost Live (I think they still have it on KPTV but I could be mistaken) but I always liked it more than Portlandia. Besides Seattle being the city most of the jokes if I recall didn't revolve around things only PNWers would understand, just like you don't have to go to New York to get inside jokes on SNL.

This was some years ago but I was following Carrie Brownstein's video blog because Sleater Kinney were/are one of my favorite bands (you probably know this but Brownstein and the rest of SK lived a lot closer to you in WA than they did to me in PDX. )They weren't really sketches but little outings: for example, she claimed to hate Phish but never really listened to them, so she went and got every Phish album (including going out of her way to find the really rare bootlegs) so she could give an honest opinion.. I won't spoil anything but it was cute, and she's kind of crack a joke once in a while.

Now she's like Carrie the Portlandia clown, which really sucks because I grew up with her music. Everything else can be summed up if you read any and all of my "I don't like Portlandia but I kind of like Portlandia" rants of course.. But I was mentioning to Evilhomer how the Portland I grew up in was much darker, with many more Tyler Durdens and Arturo the Aqua Boys and less Tall Bikes and Food carts.

Still five stars because I saw the biggest rat on Division the other day. It might have been a nutria but I think it was a rat. Big as oppossum!

this is less funny than a bad robot chicken sketch. 5 for IZ being our actual resident hipster. That means nothing btw, but come on... he knows all the cool shit and even more about the cooler shit you've never heard about. I love im. Let's all have sex in broklyn
pece

infinite zest - 2014-05-27

Actual Resident Hipster :) It's funny, I was passively watching Robot Chicken last night without the sound on at a bar and saw this:

I'm sorry but it's one of the funnier things I've ever seen.

Syd Midnight - 2014-06-02

I think Portlandia is crypto-conservative propaganda designed to make people hate and fear the spectre of a city run by liberals.

Nominal - 2014-05-27

Well that was money not well spent.

infinite zest - 2014-05-27

I thought it was cute. For all my bitching about Portlandia sketches being able to be applied to most other cities as if they don't know what music or espresso or bicycles are, zero packaging stores are a thing here. I know the first one opened in Austin (Portland's cooler-but-aging older brother) and I think there's one in Seattle, but they're kind of all over the place here. In Austin it makes a little more sense.. there's things besides rats but rats kind of like things like WATER. And Food that's left out. The confluence of the two in Portland and Seattle for most of the years means a buffet for the critters.

It is kind of weird though. In my 6 years of living at the same place, which is ostensibly 4 blocks from this store (it's fictional on the show but I know exactly where it is) and having slobs for housemates who leave food out everywhere, for days, and DAMP, black mold, never seen a single rat or a roach. I'd be knocking on wood right now but I don't care because I'm moving in 4 days. Still pretty weird.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-05-29

This wasn't evil bad enough to be entertainingly so.
