I don't know too much about China's Internet censorship, outside of bleeping out things like "Tienanmen Square" and such, but I'm kind of surprised 4chan (or at least a meme originating from there) would be acceptable.

blase - 2014-07-21 You'd be surprised. I think one of the few things they don't allow are criticism of the government and pornography. Otherwise, a lot of the same things you'll also find on YouTube.

infinite zest - 2014-07-21 Pornography? Last time I was on. /an someone had a question about their sick bunny rabbit and multiple bukkake gifs appeared in the thread :)

Well, good on them for 'borrowing' intellectual property that's sort of in the public domain.
|
infinite zest - 2014-07-20 It's also strange given the intentionally racist versions that appeared after Hot Topic started selling the shirts.
|
infinite zest - 2014-07-21 I'm actually curious about the 'public domain' thing too: someone made a shit ton of money with lolcats, but you can't copyright a cat, a wolf, etc. but somebody drew this. I know that 99% of 4chan is anonymous but I'd sure be pissed if it was being sold as a clothing lime and a show halfway across the globe.

Here's another (and many more in the sidebar): http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNzQzNzYyNzI0.html?from=y1.1-2.10002- 0.1-1
If I were the creator of these things, on one hand I might be perturbed about the potential profits lost; on the other hand I'd feel honored to see how popular my ideas have become and go on to pursue a marketing career.

infinite zest - 2014-07-21 I remember noticing one of evilhomer's paintings of archieluxury in a few of his later videos. Homer took it as a compliment, but let's say AL somehow gets his own show (it's not entirely impossible-at least we'd probably watch it) and continued to use the painting.
|
infinite zest - 2014-07-21 If the poor guy didn't think ahead and copyright it though, almost anyone who's been on 4chan could say it was their doing. Maybe, like the programmer of Flappy Bird, he'd rather distance himself from the title of "guy who drew a person angry about poop water"

...or 4chan could start selling t-shirts of the Chinese's original characters: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNzQxNDc5NDI0.html?firsttime=0 Make it a mutually assured ripoff.
|
infinite zest - 2014-07-21 I'm no expert on copyright laws.. like if I had a t-shirt company and called it "Applearel" it was just plain t-shirts with a single apple drawing on the front could Apple sue?
