MRAs and the Sonic fandom: two terrible internet subcultures that go horribly together.
I never thought I'd find myself feeling sorry for a Sonic recolor artist, but Jesus Christ, these two dorks are just plain awful. I sat through the entire rant, and it's basically just one long, thinly-veiled rape fantasy, narrated by exactly the sort of people who would anthropomorphize themselves as an "edgy" hedgehog and an "edgy" Hobbes. They occasionally break from their patronizing moral lectures to discuss their favorite R34 porn, without the slightest hint of self-awareness. One of them is only fourteen, so I guess I can sort of forgive him for being such a dipshit, but I believe the other guy (the one who keeps using big words, incorrectly) is in college.
The artist in question, cristaldarkrose101, has apparently been driven off of DA. There's still some evidence of her work left, and it's pretty stupid. But it doesn't look any worse than most Sonic fan stuff, and besides, come on! With all the things you can say about Sonic recolours, they choose to focus entirely on the fact that she's a girl who likes sex?!
There's another video on their channel where they "show their feminist side" for over an hour. In some ways, it's actually worse than this: it starts off like a sophmore who just got back from a Women's Studies class, and quickly devolves into a confusing mess of Nice Guy Talk and feminist talking points presented in vaguely sexist ways. There's also more pretentious academic name-dropping than I've seen from any Youtuber since Nick Bravo. (Aurini does it, too, but at least Aurini uses his words correctly)

I might listen to it later, but I like the Neutral Milk Hotel song, The Fool, at the beginning.
On a side note, I've been thinking of joining deviantart. I always joke that my art sort of reached its eschaton in 1st grade.. I did some graffiti art on those Red Plum things and sold them for 10 bucks a piece at a coffee shop.. but I'm not an Artist like a lot of you guys are. I was kind of drunk and did a portrait of my friend on a cocktail napkin in 15 seconds and he posted it on facebook and it got a bunch of "likes". It was a nice self esteem booster. Then I changed it to make him look more like the bad guy from Bayou Billy in little thought bubbles. I don't know.
DO IT! None of us are artists, and nobody on DA is one, either, so you'll fit right in!
There's a handful of poeTV members on DA already, and I convinced a couple of my VA buddies to join there, too. It can be a pretty ridiculous place, but as long as you stay out of the social network drama, it's quite fun.
I know people who make money off DA, pretty damned good money. Cartoon fetishists will pay bank, but your art will be stolen and monetized by others constantly, so it's a 24/7 job of copyright threats and emails to take things down.
Yeah, I tried an experiment some months ago, where I posted a quick cartoon that touched on a bunch of fetishes. Within a week it got more hits than my entire page has earned in a year. Commissioned fetish and Good Girl art seems to be the best way to make bank off DA, but like meme says, it's tough to hold down copyrights on the stuff you post there, so if you're a dedicated professional it might be best to approach DA as a side venture.
Ah, Neutral Milk Hotel. They sure have some terrific album cover art. I particularly like the art for Ferris Wheel on Fire. Maybe they play music, too, I have no idea.
Just some guy. I think he has a cold. Seriously Aeroplane Over the Sea might be my favorite album in ever.

Also ever since watching this my YouTube recommendations have been filled with nothing but godawful "rant" videos about internet subcultures I had no idea existed.
