Maybe he invented it? If only he could prove it was real magic, then he could win that million that's offered.
I first saw sometthing more or less the same in "Bill Severn's Impromptu Magic" but I don't expect it originated there.
Actually the more I think about it the more this trick is different than the one I'm thinking of.
In the variation I know, instead of the second ball ending up in the person's hand, the performer tears up a single napkin then wads it into a ball, has the person hold it, and restores it. So it's really only the same (more or less) in terms of execution, the way it's presented is actually pretty different.
