Maybe throwing rocks at soldiers in a war zone isn't a good idea...?

On the other hand, sacrificing one teenager from your community in order to film emotionally charged footage which can then be used to score yet another minor propaganda victory in your seventy-year crusade of annihilation waged against the Jews, well yes, I suppose THAT is a good idea.

Happy New Year, SolRo!

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2015-01-04

are you *trolling* evilhomer?
I thought you were a class act!

bopeton - 2015-01-04

Doesn't seem like trolling.

Both sides of this conflict are wrong and do shitty things non-stop. It's like your asshole bro friend and his psycho girlfriend. They deserve each other.

EvilHomer - 2015-01-04

Exactly what bopeton said.

Did you miss the Great Baleen-SolRo War some months ago, Mr Purple Cat? Pull up a chair and get some popcorn.

Xenocide - 2015-01-04

Yeah, both sides have done assholic things. But only one side trapped the other in a region which they keep locked down like a prison, then bombed the region nonstop for weeks, specifically targeting schools, hospitals, and places where civilians were known to be taking refuge. There's being assholes, and then there's straight-up trying to wipe out a culture.

At this point, the "BUT BOTH SIDES IN ISRAEL ARE JERKS SO I CAN SAFELY CRAWL UP MY OWN ASS AND IGNORE IT" excuse is about as informed and nuanced as the "Republicans and Democrats both suck equally, no difference, VOTE RON PAUL" argument.

EvilHomer - 2015-01-04

Yeah Xenocide, the Arabs are terrible and all, but do you really think they've got Israel locked down *like a prison*? That's going a bit too far, I think.

And what exactly was the difference between Republicans and Democrats again? One's EVIL, one's GOOD, something nuanced and informed like that...?

EvilHomer - 2015-01-04

Another thing to keep in mind is that recognizing the moral and historical complexities of a situation is not the same thing as CRAWLING UP (ONE'S) OWN ASS. In fact, I'd argue that NOT acknowledging these complexities is the prerequisite step for own-ass-crawling, and not the other way around.

StanleyPain - 2015-01-04

Look at the bright side, though, Homer..this will give Israel even more excuses to be a theocratic fascist shithole that proclaims non-Jews to be fourth-class citizens!

SolRo - 2015-01-04

Hey, those totally not fascist Israelis are now keeping revenue from the taxes they collect from Palestinians for daring to join the ICC.

You'd think that would be theft, but not when Israel does it!

PegLegPete - 2015-01-04

Max Blumenthal came out with a new book that's en route to me as I speak; it's called "Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel". I've seen a couple of his lectures on the book and he lays out a pretty convincing case that Israel is currently a racist apartheid state that's getting more extreme.

The Palestinians are not all Arabs. The Israelis are not all Jews. Neither of these groups speak for the entirety of the ethnic/race/religious identity they are commonly associated with.

The point of arguing about Israeli oppression of Palestinians is because, as citizens of the United States, we directly contribute billions of tax dollars annually to Israel. Israel would not be able to do what they are doing without our help. That's why Blumenthal supports the BDS movement (boycott, divestment, sanction). We should all probably support BDS if we can.

SolRo - 2015-01-04

The current Israeli president is against the two state solution and is actually for just conquering all of the remaining Palestinian lands. No, really, he said that.

"Mr Rivlin advocates that all of the territory between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea should be under Israeli sovereignty."

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2015-01-04

I would advise anyone who cares / has a strong enough opinion on this topic to bother posting a comment to read up about it, in order to inform your opinion. Robert Fisks book "The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East " is a great place to start. Its a compendium of lots of the articles he wrote over a few decades as middle-east correspondent for the Times and then the Independant, so it deals with many issues in the entire region over a large span of time. Also since they are newspaper articles it is an easy read, also as a middle-east politics/history expert his credentials are beyond reproach and I find him to be quite an incisive writer.

bopeton - 2015-01-04

Yeah I didn't mean to start this argument.

Your average Israeli just wants to live in peace and not worry about their bus exploding or rockets hitting their wedding. All of the occupied areas were taken during *defensive* maneuvers in the war in the 60s.

Local Arabs feel the land for central Israel was stolen from then unfairly in the first place, and probably could make that case. People in the occupied territories aren't treated very well, and I think it would be difficult to argue otherwise.

The problem is they've been smacking each other around over it for going on 3/4 a century now, and the scars aren't really about those central concepts anymore. They're just angry and violent, the both of them. Both sides have been fighting fire with fire all this time, and it's so complex and muddled that those ridiculous "Israeli are oppressors!" and "Arabs are terrorists!" arguments are just entirely useless to understanding or solving the situation.

If there was an obvious solution that was fair to everyone in this situation, someone would have found it in the last few decades. Stop pretending there are bad guys and good guys here.

SolRo - 2015-01-04

I honestly don't think the Israeli government or its supporters are interested in any solution that works for both sides. They want the land and total military/political control of the areas surrounding it.

It's a literal crusade for them. They think the land is theirs, just these smelly Arabs have just been watching it for them while they've been on vacation for over a thousand years.

Dr Robot - 2015-01-05

There is no Palestinian people. The Jordanians who should have been moved.

And the fact is, if the Israelis laid down the arms and said "we will fight no more", the next day the Muslim cunts would slaughter them all.

If the Muslim cunts laid down their arms and said "we will fight now more", the next day all that would happen is there would be peace.

So fuck Islam. Muhammad was a false prophet. Fuck your faith.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-01-04

I know how much Poetv loves to hate on them dirty kikes for oppressing the poor downtrodden Arabs, but just remember that American soldiers shoot Mexican kids for throwing rocks, too.

http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=80029

(Although I suppose you could blame the evil conspiracy of Israeli lobbyists who secretly control our government for that, too.)

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2015-01-04

So it's hypocritical to dislike both shootings? Especially since the country shooting Mexicans backs the one shooting Palestinians?

Mental pretzels for everyone, folks!

Aelric - 2015-01-04

Some Poetards are Canadian

Void 71 - 2015-01-04

If by 'secretly control our government' you mean 'openly contribute tens of millions of dollars to American politicians for favorable treatment', then that's not exactly a conspiracy. That's what lobbyists do and jewish-funded PACs are heavy contributors to both parties.

That said, I think the Israel lobby is a crumbling institution. Their sway over American politicians dwindles each time Israel overplays its hand in the occupied territories. I certainly don't envy jews living in Israel because they are essentially a minority population living in a gated community that was built with tanks and bombs. When those walls come down, there are going to be a lot of angry arabs banging at the door. They're in for a rude awakening if they think a fading empire like America will be able to save them from the demographic reality of that region.

Dr Robot - 2015-01-05

Then we'll fucking kill them all

Maggot Brain - 2015-01-04

Something-something about metaphorical stones and real life bombs. Something I've always wondered is where the modern majority of Jews living in Israel are originally from. It's not like there were any Hellenic Jews left after the war. So, British and Russian with the small percential of French, German, and western/ southern Slavic?

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2015-01-04

A good percentage of the jewish population are the children or grandchildren of people came from Germany after world war 2. In fact many of them came more or less straight from liberated concentration camps.
Seems to be human nature that when oppressed people get a chance, they will in turn oppress the fuck out of someone else.

Maggot Brain - 2015-01-04

I guess that adds up. Something that is forgotten about the end of war is that that Germany under when the lagest intranal migration in Europe's history, you would think that have a bigger wiki page but it doesn't.

Dr Robot - 2015-01-05

No one is being oppressed in Israel you fucking idiots. There are Arabs on the supreme court, Arabs that hold elected office.

I'm a WASP who has an apartment in Israel for work. If you haven't been there and seen the society for yourself, you really have no idea what you're talking about.

Israel has made that wasteland bloom again. The Arabs did nothing with it. When the land is given to the Arabs to control, they destroy the rose gardens, etc, and use the land for their evil death cult. Were they given Israel completely, it'd become a wasteland again.

The truth is the Muslims hate freedom. They hate women. They hate life.

Maggot Brain - 2015-01-05

ok, then.

That guy - 2015-01-04

Happy New Year, SolRo!! Let's have the same arguments over and over again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

mouser - 2015-01-05

I vote to glass-plate the entire region.
