Hoarfrost ( or Rhime ) is common in this area right around this time. It's really quite beautiful, especially when several deposits happen over the course of a week. However, the "frosting" happens without sound or fury.

I'd never heard the word before, but we pretty much had one of these too about a month ago. I decided to go up to the waterfalls for a hike and the smaller falls were frozen and all the trees were made out of ice. It was beautiful but really dangerous because the waterfalls were slowly melting all around us, dropping ice balls twice the size of my head right along the trail from hundreds of feet up. Most exciting, beautiful and difficult 1 mile loop I've ever been on.

You no doubt have heard Coleridge's "Rime of the ancient mariner", the title being a clever pun on the words rime and rhyme.

Oh cool. I think I've only heard the Iron Maiden song tho. :)
