Daltrey was SO high when he was in this movie.
As far as the movie goes, it was sort of an urban legend when I was in high school and not even the video store I worked at in college (which is considered one of the best in the country) knew about it. I finally tracked down a VHS and.. well.. it's probably not the worst movie I've ever seen. But this brings back so many mammarys.

Ken Russell is and always will be my favorite director, hands down, no debate. This entire movie is the most magical clusterfuck. I didn't sleep for DAYS after seeing it, it was seriously that important a film.
I cannot, cannot, cannot stress that this is probably the most important film the vast majority has never even heard of.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-02-01 Yes, it is a clusterfuck. Yes, it is better than Avatar.
I saw this something like five times in the theater, back when I was seventeen, and smoked a lot of dope, and when you're as old as I am, things that you loved when you're seventeen can inspire... ambivalence. They remind you ow full of shit you used to be.
I haven't seen this since the seventies, but I have seen Tommy, and much of Tommy looks kind of dreadful now. I'm thinking of Ann-Margaret's terrible acting, and endless closeups of Daltry looking angelic, and the vomiting television. Oh, and Jack Nicholson's singing, which is at least brief. But Litszomania may come off better now. Russell didn't have to slavishly follow PeteTownshend's vision and I think that allowed him to be a lot more inventive. I remember Litszomania as one outrageous surprise after another. Shit comes out of left field.
I think that this may arguably be the dumbest scene in the movie, though it certainly is memorable. Today, the giant cock would be cgi, and a lot more realistic.

And apart from Sweet Movie, I really can't think of another movie that's so irrelevant and left-field, except for maybe Schizopolis and I guess Dr. Parnassus (which I also didn't really like. Sorry Terry..)
