I've always hated these shows. The one's ripped from the news are the by far the worst. They take terrible stuff from the news and then add forced melodrama, and don't get me started on the cast itself. They are so dramatic all the fucking time! Seems like every case has to hit one of the characters on a personal level. "He's killing women, and I'm a woman. This makes this case PERSONAL!!!!!"

It's almost like it's a tv drama or something, being all dramatic all the time. Why can't there be a few episodes where nothing of note happens, like they have a nice biscuit and watch some kids not getting attacked in the park.

Its not that there's drama, its that they're always so damned dramatic. What happened to the cool hard-boiled cops? Maybe its just that everyone on this show is overacting all the time.

What about ICE-T? He's pretty cool and hard-boiled. Also very light skinned, like Colin Powell.

Ice T comes off as the phoniest and fakest of them all.

I think the drama detracts from the franchise's original premise: Showing a police procedural. The very early L&O shows had very little in the way of character development other than mentioning a detective's daughter or having something happen to explain a regular leaving the cast.

I think they ran out of ways to murder people, so they made the show more about the detectives personal lives and how their cases impact them. That got pretty far away from the original shows, though it seems to be what the audiences for cop shows want these days. I mean, it's obviously not for even remotely realistic policework.

Although given how many times the "heroes" violate the rights of the accused, I suppose that IS realistic...

Me and my wife watch this regularly.

She watches it because of the over-played drama.

I watch it for the hilarious "ripped from the headlines" (read: internet) and Ice T's contributions to the investigations.

I have no idea; he might have been. I only ever watched, like, one episode of TOS, and then stopped, because I felt really guilty and was worried that my fellow preschoolers would laugh at me and stop being my found if they found out I was watching a girl's show. Also, I stopped watching because the show sucked (sorry, G1 fans, it's true). I don't recall there being a dragon character, but there very well could have been!

Of course, Spike's not much of a "boy" character now, leastwise not the sort of boy character whom boys would likely gravitate towards. Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Big Mac, Braeburn, Shining Armor, Roid Rage, the Wonderbolts, Fluttershy, and maybe Flash Sentry - those are the FiM characters who really appeal to cis-gendered boys. Spike? Spike is a beta cuck who gets bullied merciless by his M'ladies, and in at least one episode, snaps like Elliot Rodger and goes full-on serial killer. Fortunately, he gets cuck'd and put in his place again before he can do any lasting damage, but you can see the self-righteous murder in his eyes as he prepares to devour Rarity and all her bitch pony friends for not rewarding his Nice Guy-ness with plot.

If anything, Spike is there to appeal to wizards and TFLers.

Not that Spike's desire for murder is entirely unwarranted, mind you. If some girls had left Elliot Rodger on a frozen lake and laughed as the ice broke and he fell in and nearly drowned, then his anger might have been somewhat understandable, at least towards those girls specifically. Spike sets himself up for failure, but he is definitely the victim of some pretty perverse bullying.
