Gonna take my lunch break now, think I'm just going to Jack in the Box, anyone want anything?

Tell them to put two cups of that ground taco meat stuff into a large diet coke for me.

I just had to endure my second one of these and do understand why people would just throw in the towel regarding the "clear liquid diet". Between the starvation and the peeing out the butt all night, it is a true test of stamina.

I got my first one a couple of years ago. The prep is like having the worst stomach flu I ever had, only self induced. I wondered as I was drifting out on the table if I was going to squirt out crap when they put the camera up my butt, and if some poor soul was going to have to clean it up. I'm glad I was unconscious for it.

I underwent an emergency colonoscopy, no drugs were given in case it had a bad effect with the internal bleeding. I've had concussions, broken toes, a bike crash that rash'd the skin off my face, arms belly and legs, and a wisdom tooth removed without anesthetic.

Nothing compared to the 2 hours in the ER. Nothing. No prep, just shove it in and inflate with as much air as possible. The body will flush it out. They then inject red liquid to help clean things out and spot the bleeding. The ER was a mess. Fluids splattered all over the walls. 18 clamps to fix the damage in the hardest to reach area, the Dr's pushing down on my abdomen to get the scope and probe to point in the right direction. I pee'd myself and cried, but did not scream, flinch or pass out. The Dr was sweating bullets. Once it was over, I was on IV for 2 weeks with no food, and mush for a week after that.

The takeaway, do the prep. Relax, it'll be over in 10 minutes. Know that whatever discomfort you feel from a routine checkup is trivial.
