Okay, I'm middle-aged m'self, but I douse myself in internet regularly and I try to keep an eye on pop culture and everything, but...

In one of the more recent episodes of Supernatural, they not only had college students using netspeak verbally (that is, saying things like "hells yeah" or "oh-em-jee"), they'd also use the word "hashtag" in a conversation to drive home a point. Like, "You slept with my best friend, hashtag asshole!"

Does even a minority of "young people" do this? For reals and hells yeah?

Kinda, especially the "hashtag" one, but it's normally for comedic or ironic effect (protip: it's not funny or ironic. Protip: nobody says protip anymore) but it doesn't annoy me too much and I just try my best to ignore it. "OMG" I kind of have to restrain myself a little, since it's the same amount of fucking syllables! But I've been guilty of saying "WTF" in acronym form, out of respect for, I dunno, meeting the in-laws for the first time.

Speaking of feeling like an old person, does anyone on a P2P actually SAY Darknet? Like, I know what it is, but I've never heard someone refer to it like "yo dawg, see you on the darknet" any more than "cyberspace" or, well "the net."

The only place I regularly hear "darknet" is as a vague reference to "the place where really illegal stuff goes on" in news stories about things like the Silk Road or credit card theft. It seems to be a catchall for that kind of thing when doing journalism or trying to be instructional to an audience that might not be very tech-savvy, but never in casual conversation.
