Co-written by Ray Collins, who was actually in a few doo-wop groups before meeting up with Frank Zappa.

Nice, have you listened to that radio show where Zappa hangs out and plays all of his old doo wop records? That was where I heard this one originally.

Not yet, but I first heard this one on one of Rhino's Doo-Wop box sets. I was surprised to learn that Zappa wrote it since I only knew him initially from his hard rock / jazz fusion songs. So, this song was how I decided to get into Frank Zappa and the Mothers, I guess.

P.S. - "Cruising with Ruben and the Jets" is where Ray Collins really shines in my opinion. Perhaps the best love letter to Doo-Wop before Sha-Na-Na.

I like that album a lot, I'm going to put that doo wop radio thing in the hopper, I don't know if it'll make it out, but it's great. My favorite line from cruising is "you threw my best shark skin suit out on the lawn... right on top of some dog waste"

Shit, thought that doo wop radio thing was on youtube, I guess not. You can find it online though if you search frank zappa radio kppc 1968 11 27. If you like Zappa, you will really like this.
