I'm kinda glad I missed out on pogoing. I like how that device stage right of Byrne still looks like an iPhone. I would've been just as pissed off in the 70s at shows as I am in 20XX.

Pogoing, sure, I'd ask everyone to please stop. Of course now we have to put up with throngs of people extending their cellphone cameras in the air throughout an entire show. That's annoying as all hell too.

But seeing Talking Heads live, yeah, missed that.

This was the same year I saw Talking Heads in the social room at SUNY Binghamton. David Byrne was great, I suppose, but 37 years later, I hardly remember him. I do remember that, brought up as I was on seventies rock and roll bands like Ted Nugent and Kiss, who would make a big entrance with an ecstatic-sounding announcer, dry ice fog machines, and Great White-style pyrotechnics, I was charmed by the coolness of Talking Heads stepping calmly onstage and David Byrne saying into the microphone "Here we go."

But what I'll never forget from the show was Chris Frantz's drumming during "Love Goes to Building on Fire". I had the song on a New Wave compilation album, and I wasn't crazy about it, but this live performance stood out, for no other reason than pure musicianship. The whole band was tight, and Frantz just nailed it with stunning flourishes that seemed to build and build. It wasn't just me. The audience heard what I heard and we all went crazy when it was over.

Pogoing was great fun, but I was prevented from pogoing at this particular show by a security guard`dressed in 1978 punk regalia..

There's a sign at my local watering hole: "I might be old, but at least I saw all the good shows." It's true. I remember thinking how much of a bummer it was that I'd never see X (I love Talking Heads too but Los Angeles 70s punk is my favorite) and then they got back together. "Disappointing" isn't the right word, and they sounded great, but in lieu of an opening band they just showed their own documentary The Unheard Music. Like everybody there hadn't seen that. I'm envious of all these UC Berkeley hippies and the old punks who got to see X at the Masque in LA, but I have a feeling I would've felt the same as I felt at the X show if I was old enough to go to Stop Making Sense in person.

That being said, I'm gonna go and see Old Time Relijun tonight. If you haven't heard of them, check 'em out. Not exactly like Talking Heads, but they remind me of each other in a lot of ways.

Incidentally Infinie Zest talking about X getting back together reminded me that the Sonics have reunited! Hey if these guys can drag their aging asses to a show, maybe I can, too!

Hell yeah they did! Haven't heard the new album yet. I guess I sort of lied when I said that LA punk was my favorite; Pacific Northwest punk like The Wipers, Dead Moon, The Sonics, Poison Idea.. those are my favorites. The same watering hole I mentioned above comes with its own real-life Sam Henry (The Wipers, X Cover band "Gimme an X") whom I consider the greatest drummer in the world, even better than X's own DJ Bonebrake. I talk with him about starting a project every time I see him, but he never remembers me the next time I see him.

Wow even pitchfork gave the new album a good review. That's saying something for a site who caters to all the iPhone people who make me hate new music. Incidentally, I was reading this:
