Yeah.. it might be the most used reference of anything on the Simpsons that people actually think was/is a real thing. Like, nobody goes to the bar and orders a duff or a squishee instead of a slurpee, or if they do it's just a freudian slip but everything just assumes the big car crushing dinobot is actually Truckasaurus.
The early 1990s were a golden age for these sort of failed TV pilots which a lot of the time had fantastical but ridiculous premises, usually ripped off ideas from movies or other TV shows, and featured bland lead actors.
This one is just slightly more ridiculous than most - a cop on the edge in The Future! which is a mix of obnoxiously early 1990s looks and badly done 1940s retro fashions and décor learns that he is a chosen one from the magic negro who is a time-travelling immortal and such who helps chosen ones with "The Gift" reach their potential. He is able to magically summon forth a giant version of the Robosaurus toy his late son had and finally take down the arms dealer responsible for his car getting blown up with his son inside.
Surprisingly, there was no series resulting from a pilot about a giant robot dinosaur possessed by the spirit of a boy killed by an RPG in a gangland drive-by and how a magic negro browbeats the boy's father into summoning said robot and comes off like a z-grade Blade Runner ripoff mixed with a high concept sitcom premise.
Whether or not I would've watched this, either as a kid or as an adult, is de trop. I want to go back in time and sit in on the writers' room meetings.
