Reason number whatever why I'm so excited for Fury Road: not only are the stunts real, but the flaming double guitar in the trailer actually works. Take your crossguard lightsabres and go home kids. Mom and dad are watching the movies.

It sounds like they basically strapped him into this monstrosity and told him to go nuts.

So all the stunts are real? I guess we've just reached the point where everything is shot and/or edited digitally so it looks like CGI even when it isn't, because the trailers and clips I've seen didn't make it look like they were actually doing that stuff.

I'm definitely more interested now.

I don't think *all* the stunts are real, but the vast majority of the effects are real, not CGI. For example, that one scene (shown briefly in the trailer) where there's a bunch of people on poles and they go from vehicle to vehicle on them... that whole thing is apparently real. And of course, Guitar Guy is all real, down to the flamethrower guitar that really worked. (and weighed 300 pounds)

Yeah, this movie looks amazing. I need to go see it, toute suite.

Yeah it's actually one of the things the movie's being most praised for. I'm gonna see it today, but the reviews are like "2 hours of nonstop accidents and explosions" and Hardy's acting is usually what's criticized, like he just falls into the background in contrast with Charleze Theron. Which is crazy because he basically ate the scenery in Bronson.. no wait he hatefucked that scenery. Anyway the review said it should've been called Furiosa. I remember reading a review from the same paper a couple years ago for Need For Speed. It wasn't a necessarily a glowing review, but it praised the 100% real car stunts in a sea of CGI Summer blockbusters, just to make a movie out of a game series working with one of the least plot-based game franchises of all time. And it was on TV not too long ago, and, yeah. If you like cars doing cool stuff it's great. But if you like this video, it's not just the flamethrowing double guitar, but pretty much this video for 2 hours.

I saw it today, one of the best action movies in quite some time! Especially telling in the credits the construction/weaponeer/armory sections are way bigger than the CG section. Its a very lived in world and the commitment to practical effects really lends to that, and it just oozes effort.

Yeah I saw it today. I don't regret going all out and seeing it in 3D, but I have a feeling that a movie that I really DO regret seeing in 3D (Dredd) would've had more. It's just a couple of parts coming right at your face. Then again, it was pretty packed for a 1PM matinee, so I had my choice of being off to the side or in the middle in the front row, so I chose the front row. Maybe that's too close for 3D. I'm gonna see it again but in regular format.

What it reminds me of is Avatar. Every one I talked to who saw it in 3D or in the theatres loved it, but said that the plot was pretty predictable. It's just really, really pretty and there was nothing else like it. But, if you're into sci fi movies and aliens and stuff, then it's probably about perfect. Same with Mad Max. The part of me that wants to mention the almost non-existent plot and backstory is the same part of me in the theatre who got bored for like literally a minute when it took a break from the action to explain some of it. I guess it would be sort of like seeing The Avengers 2 if you somehow lived under a rock that meant that you had never even heard of any of the characters before taking your seat. There are plenty of really memorable characters, like way cooler than even Master Blaster, who just show up and are never heard from again.. it's basically like a whole bunch of Boba Fetts. If you blink or go to the bathroom, you miss him but if you saw him he was suddenly your favorite character.

But like you said it feels lived in. The bad guys' world isn't the one that we're experiencing, so why should we need an expose? One other thing that is really minor, but it's something I think about: how come everybody has an Australian accent but Charleze Theron has a regular one? Everybody's ostensibly from relatively the same region of Australia, and it's been at least a few generations of people being born there, including Furiosa, so where would she pick up an American accent? Oh well, it was worth every penny, including the 6 dollar beer because they wanted to search my bag, and I came up with an excuse that there were medical supplies in there so don't open it.. goddamn you regal cinemas

It's in the top 10 best things I've ever seen on here so I'll let it slide.

I knew that would be the case, but whatcha gonna do? If if was one of those "Click to view this movie" things, I don't think you guys would go for it, seeing as how we don't pirate films on this site.
