Let's do a show about the current generation and have it reek of the 90's!
infinite zest - 2015-06-09 I was writing a TV show with a transgendered individual a couple of years ago; because it was supposed to be live action people probably would've figured it out because you don't see too many 6'5 women who still have their adams apples on television (the surgery's expensive), but that wasn't something that was even considered written in the script, because transgender is pretty normal even by mainstream standards these days, especially with Caitlyn Jenner. This has all the OMGness of Will And Grace "OMG THEY LIVE TOGETHER BUT HE'S GAY AND WHY NOT JUST FUCK.. TURN UN-GAY WHY DON'T YA" sort of bullshit. Let's just continue to devolve our sitcoms back to the time when married couples slept in separate beds.

infinite zest - 2015-06-09 I dunno, I can't speak for all cartoons, but computers have actually made lazy horrible animation way easier to make than it was in the 90s
dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-06-10 Oh no doubt. Horrible lazy animation wasn't as prevalent in the 90s as it is today.
Sure there were plenty of poorly animated cartoons back then, but I dare you to find one that was quite as ineptly animated as this video.
There were videos on Newgrounds 12 years ago that had better animation than this.
dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-06-09
That was a long two minutes.
Also, no, this is not "the first animated series in the history of the world to feature a trans woman in a lead role". Pokemon says hi.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maddie_Blaustein
This looks fucking terrible. Five stars!
Oscar Wildcat - 2015-06-09 Ha ha! This is pretty much the new Star Wars movie, right down to identical closing scenes.
Sanest Man Alive - 2015-06-09 After playing Valkyrie Profile, it blew my mind to find out the foppish magic sadist Lezard Valeth and the growly Guts knockoff Arngrim shared the same VA. It didn't matter that Blaustein was trans (a point this show is missing hard); she had amazing vocal range, and it sucks that she died so suddenly.
This is as painful to look at as a compound fracture.
Bobonne - 2015-06-09
What the fuck is "trania" supposed to mean?
That guy - 2015-06-09 There's a long parade of words you have to learn. You can never learn them all. If you do, they have to make up new ones.
Bobonne - 2015-06-09 Fuck off, I wasn't talking to you.
That guy - 2015-06-09 Oh, I'm That guy, I don't fuck off.
Sanest Man Alive - 2015-06-09 it's just further shorthand for "metroidvania"; This one probably doesn't even give you flight abilities until you're practically at the final boss's door.
That guy - 2015-06-10 That was hardly the point I was making and you know it, sir.
Xenocide - 2015-06-10 The point you were making was tired and dumb, so I replaced it with a new, better point, at no extra charge.

sasazuka - 2015-06-09
"The first half-hour comedy to go from the web to TV?"
Wait, what about GARY THE RAT? Yeah, I still remember that Kelsey Grammer thing from Spike TV's failed adult animation block.
I dunno, I like Dominic Monaghan but not much else in the trailer interests me, and that Bill Cosby apartment joke just gives me the impression that it wants to be edgy in the most generic and bland way possible.
infinite zest - 2015-06-09 Yeah it's a bold statement. Tom Goes to the Mayor was picked up by adult swim 5 years before. I guess "30 minute" means that TGTTM is officially disqualified, but it's still a dumb bold statement.
infinite zest - 2015-06-09 Also wasn't South Park's pilot circulated around the early internet? I mean it was copied around on VHS too, but I'm pretty sure I saw the Jesus vs Santa thing on an ftp before the show premiered..
sasazuka - 2015-06-09 They're probably correct in that GOODNIGHT, BURBANK was in half-an-hour format on the Internet before it became half-an-hour on television while GARY THE RAT was, I believe, web shorts (rather than full half-hours) before it became a short-lived half-hour animated sitcom on Spike TV.

bopeton - 2015-06-09
I cringed so hard it physically hurt me.
Kabbage - 2015-06-09
I have become a being of pure cringe.
Meerkat - 2015-06-09
Their motivations are so poorly conveyed. Why would these people have anything to do with one another? Unless it involves blackmail on a cosmic scale, or some sort of criminal sentence.
Aelric - 2015-06-09
This reeks of republican comedy. Can't quite say why, but it totally does.
infinite zest - 2015-06-09 It's got a similar lazy animation style to those republican cartoons that sort of look like family guy..
blue vein steel - 2015-06-09 yeah, using the very real tragedy of Leelah Alcorn as a set prop reeks of the cheap exploitation and blurred Poe's law style of a lot of conservative media. Oh, and the bad animation and broad stereotypes.
infinite zest - 2015-06-09 To be fair, the "-afarian" part isn't really part of it anymore, at least not the way I hear it used. It's pretty much any trust fund kid who chooses to live bohemian lifestyle, don't cut their hair and get a job because they don't have to.. I think the etymology has less to do with Halie Selassie and more to do with the fact that nobody would hire white kids with dreadlocks.
Caminante Nocturno - 2015-06-09
Wow, watching this trailer must be like looking into a mirror for some of you guys, huh?
The New Meat - 2015-06-09
It's impressive how offensive this is on every level, from the stilted Clutch Cargo animation to the instantly dated pop culture jokes to the bizarrely tone deaf conversation about the transgirl's genitals. I think the Leelah Alcorn poster in the background really takes the cake, though, since it's always in good taste to appropriate tragedy to telegraph the total hip youth street cred of your shitty Flash cartoon.
A train wreck, a trouble-maker a trans girl and a trustafarian. Did we mention transgirl? She's a transgirl! It's important because that's the sole trait by which the character is defined. WHOA this ain't your dad's ethnic mismatch comedy!
infinite zest - 2015-06-09 I'm gonna go Lana del Cray on you, you Mumford sonofabitch! Let's just say this milk hotel is no longer neutral!
Spaceman Africa - 2015-06-09
they even gave the asian character the purple colored hair streak
Zoot42 - 2015-06-09
Is this Canadian? Ever since I discovered POEtv I've been obsessed with the generally shitty quality of Canadian animation. This show reeks of it.
Sanest Man Alive - 2015-06-10 It does have a sort of "Total Drama Island" stink to it.
badideasinaction - 2015-06-10 I assumed that from the "Zed" part and the lazy animation, but having a look at their site and the bios of everyone it appears to be American.
infinite zest - 2015-06-10 Yeah Total Drama Island! That's the show I was trying to think of. Who the fuck watches that and why do they keep making new ones?
infinite zest - 2015-06-10 ..which means this show will be a huge success.
infinite zest - 2015-06-10 Also I didn't notice it until just now, but they didn't even put enough effort into cropping for the widescreen format. The characters are constantly out of frame. Jesus H.
Portaxx - 2015-06-09
I paused the video at a completely random time and of course it landed on the laziest animation error ever: http://i.imgur.com/81uGDRN.png
SHE HAS A MOUTH ON HER MOUTH OH NO I HOPE SHE'S NOT AN ALIEN
Ugh - 2015-06-10
lol joan of arc from bill and ted is in the cast list
infinite zest - 2015-06-10
I'm starting to make the connection here though.. the LGBTQ community in general was pissed at Silver Linings Playbook for hiring a straight male actor to play a M2F, as they should be. Jared Leto's a good actor and all, but it's a little like going in blackface the way things are going. I mean, it was fine for Tootsie and Bosom Buddies, but those were a long time ago and they were funny "uh oh let's dress in drag" movies and not touching upon serious subject matter. So the first show to feature a transgender is a huge milestone in the midst of that; it just sucks that it's so bad that I'll never see it.
Sanest Man Alive - 2015-06-10 "the LGBTQ community in general was pissed at Silver Linings Playbook for hiring a straight male actor to play a M2F, as they should be."
By that argument, we should all be in an uproar forever over how often adult women are hired to voice young boys in cartoons.
I don't know what show you're bringing up, but casting (and production in general) is first and foremost about presentation, not representation. You're supposed to weave illusions and make shit up to entertain people. If the director of whatever the hell you're talking about though Leto did a better job portraying the character than any transperson that applied for the role, that's why he got it (or he swallowed more sausage than Kobayashi). Again, since I'm not familiar with the show, I also don't know if the character ended up actually being some cringeworthy transexual stereotype (which would certainly be worth the community's ire, no argument there), so without that enlightenment I'll say that by and large, flipping out over a casting choice should be left to the province of comic book nerds.
infinite zest - 2015-06-11 Hahaha it was Dallas Buyers Club, not Silver Linings Playbook. Completely different movies. Basically, Leto is good in it, and probably deserved the best supporting actor award at the oscars, but it still caused a big problem since so many actual transgendered people weren't even considered. If you've seen Tropic Thunder, it's going "full retard."
Xenocide - 2015-06-10
Fuck this show. It has nothing to do with Lord Zed, or his self-named bro posse.
Jet Bin Fever - 2015-06-11
I can't rate this.
